Or mirrors like these?

vujade December 17th 2003 18:03

those look like Porsche Ruf Mirrors that have been adapted to use on a beetle... IMHO :D

boygenius December 17th 2003 20:28

Try www.weissach.com they may have your mirrors. Just go to the RUF section of the website.:D

Frank December 18th 2003 12:06

Thanks!!
I found them, the exact model!!

boygenius December 18th 2003 21:44

No problem. I should be ordering mine in a few monthes hopefully.

:D

Now to weld up my old mirror hole.:silly:

hybrid_john December 18th 2003 22:52

Right on Brendan, I cant wait to see those wing mirrors you were talking about, they were awesome:D
I'm still thinking about those mirrors that RUF makes for the 996, I'm waiting on a price quote from the company:D
Cross your fingers for me:)

You ought to be sitting down when you read that e-mail.

Those mirrors are going to be big $$$$$.

vujade December 19th 2003 10:38

do you guys know why Ruf changed the mirrors on the 911 to the mirrors in question here....???

the stock 911 mirrors created alot of drag. Ruf was able to get 3 mph more out of the top end of the 911 with these mirrrors. believe or not ;)

hybrid_john December 20th 2003 06:22

REALLY! Thats interesting, what else has been changed to increase top speed?

Frank those mirrors cost $995 USD

save up or get ready for the bill!

John

Frank December 20th 2003 14:20

Ouch! A bit too much for what I intended to do. I'll probably take sebring mirrors and modify them to get the same look

hybrid_john December 20th 2003 22:43

well the mirrors may look cool but DEFINETELY not worth that much to slap on a bug. appearantly the owners of the bugs in the pics can afford them but not the average enthusiasts trying to save a buck or two. id rather spend $1,000 on the engine or paint. but to each his own if ya got that much pocket change to spare go get them.:silly:

DORIGTT January 2nd 2004 10:41

Whoa, whoa, whoa there fellas! Quit thinking Porsche is the only way! The reality is if it has Porsche on it, or it's made for Porsche, it's going to cost you alot! Look at www.lowendesign.com, or www.tuningzubehor.com (type in mirror in the search engine and look at the DTM or Cup style mirrors. Just keep selecting the next page until you get to the good mirrors on the Zubehor site. Power mirrors for under $300.00!) Save money in this game whenever possible! I see alot of goodies for my BMW 325 that look and would perform just like the offerings for Porsche, but because there are more BMW's in the world, the costs are lower.

Hope this helps:cool:

Have you considered California Vitaloni's?

They are what I have on my bug, and I think they look NICER than most porsche mirrors. :D

They cost around £30 (UK), VERY cheap compared to many of the other offerings out there... And they do a carbon fibre version now (so I have been told).

hi
now thats funky i was looking for piper x air filters and saw those and thought about it sam they are a real nice shape the only problem i would have had is filling the holes for original mounting and then spraying again!! but for somebody who is still in the prep stage they are a sweeeeet choice and so easy on the old wallet :D ( keep the loved ones sweet and your half way there) .

the mirror moves within the housing rather than the whole housing moving doesnt it sam?

very nice.

i must admit to be toying with painting my mirrors to match the bodywork but i will run mine now as they are for a while first.

boygenius January 2nd 2004 20:12

I found some "cheap" porsche style mirrors. 993 super cup and 935 style mirrors for $150 to $160. www.betterbodiesusa.com

Go to the race parts section.:D

zen January 2nd 2004 20:39

love the Vitaloni's and intended on using them myself. found plenty of people that sell them, but none that had any in stock and any clue when they were going to have them. Vitaloni was not manufactering at the time (just last year). hopefully this has been solved now. could have just been a US thing.

True... These were brand new doors and hadnt had a hole drilled yet when I put them on :D
I *THINK* the base of the mirror would be large enough to cover the stock hole though.... Worth checking if someone has the bits.

Yup, and the whole housing pivots at the base too. Slightly tinted glass too, which reduces glare from them.

Do it, it looks Sooooo much better, and all you need is some plastic primer, some high build primer and some car colour. :)

It’s not easy to balance $$ and heart isn’t’ it !!

I’ve found my mirrors (Mercedes E with blinkers) but not under 150$ and that’s a lot to just look what’s happening behind
:D

Ruf Mirrors

2 Attachment(s)
After looking a few times at the Ruf website and reading this thread, I went onto Rennlist and there was a guy selling two Ruf Mirrors for $200.! So I bought them. They came in today and after a visit to Mr. Belt Grinder, I was able to get the driver side close to where they need to mount. The triangle plate was very soft resin, no fibers, with heli-coil inserts. In the photos there is the driver plate ground and the passenger not. It would appear that I will have to build an aluminum plate to attach to the mirror housing and car window frame and remove the black piece all together. I will photograph the procedure as I figure it out. I sure am glad that the guy with the blue Ruf GT Turbo R could not see around his big fenders with these, so went back to stock!

Thanks,

Randy

boygenius January 13th 2004 22:28

Sweet looking mirrors. $200 dollars is an awesome deal. :D
