boxster s wheels' center bore too small for 944 NA brakes?
i just tried to slip my boxster s wheels onto my 944 NA front end and the center bore on the wheels appears to be too small. am i missing something or is this indeed the case?
maybe i SHOULD have gone with mk4 stuff! i don't want to enlarge the center bore because i want the porsche caps to fit. anyone have a remedy? should i ask this in the wheel forum? |
Wierd one. Af far as I now all Porsche wheels have the same wheel bore diameter, 71.5mm. See if you can get the wheel measured for the bore size.

i'll try to get them measured tomorrow by the people putting on my tires since i have no accurate way of doing it. if not, i'll take good pics to show what i'm talking about.
now i have to go take a portrait of an old lady (photo class). |
i talked to russ at oldspeed and he said he believes some porsche wheels had different center bores. that's probably true, since if anyone were to find the one kind of incorrect wheels out there it'd be me.
can anyone verify that this is true? here they are, and check out the ones that came on my sweet ride  http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k2...6.jpg~original |
i couldn't bolt these up until today when i got my lug nuts, but here's what i'm looking at:
http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k2...7.jpg~original i'm pretty ignorant about 944 stuff, but doesn't this have to be a center bore issue? if i use spacers i'll run out of stud because i only get 5 turns at this point. if i machine the wheels they might not take the center caps, and if i machine the hubs they won't be hub centric to any normal porsche wheels. any advice? |
This may be a long shot, but have you tried asking a Porsche dealership about different hubcentric bores?
P.S. DON'T tell them it's going on a VW use the year 944 suspension you got, and tell them what year and model you got the new wheels from. |
Find someone with a set of calipers. Then we can talk numbers.

Oh, sorry. my bad :o . I thought you had NA calipers.
|
Yeah, I mean measuring calipers.

do we know that the hub on all 944 NAs are 71.5 or 71.6, whatever the number is?

and i haven't asked a dealer yet because i've never talked to anyone at any dealer who knew anything. the last guy at a vw dealership got confused when i called my jetta a mark4. maybe porsche guys are better, but i don't expect much from my local dealers, no offense to them. and i have been pretending it's just an april '85 944 just to save confusion on their end. |
I'll measure my '87 hub's tomorrow. They have '95 993 wheels on them.
|
cool, thanks. by the way, you're not close to bowling green or nashville, are you?
