Im ok, left arm and back hurts. But I will say that my VW held up very well! I was doing 50 and hit the back of a suburban (who was at fault)

Cant wait to see where this takes me in the world of VW's

I am sorry about your loss. It looks like you hit the wheel at an angle, thus missing the column. Imagine if you had hit the column dead on. you would be in a serious amount of pain. that's why I run a stock wheel an would recomend it to anyone.

gsusmaniac May 13th 2006 17:34

I actually didnt hit the wheel. I grabbed it with both hands and held it like it was my lifeline. When I hit I bent it straight forward and my hands proceeded through the dash board. I ahled myself back from hitting anything. thankfully.

jonas_linder May 14th 2006 03:27

that is really sad :( I'm glad you're okey!

That's incredible, that must have taken a tremendous amount of force to bend the wheel and the dash. No broken bones? Someone is drinking their milk, AND eating their Wheaties.

and this why four point harnesses should be mandatory! lol

well i'm glad your fine... car wrecks are no funn....
I had a 67 mustang fastback that i busted the front of at one point .. i was fine due to my four point harness but i got out ran about 100 feet dropped to the floor and started pounding the ground....it's horrible to loose the ones we love...

anyways i'm glad to see your in good shape after that.. now its time for the rebuild!!!

gsusmaniac May 14th 2006 07:08

Yeah, no broken bone...lots of milk!

volkdent May 14th 2006 13:06

In '87 when I first got my '60, one of the first modifications I made was to put a set of Rabbit over the shoulder centrifical seatbelts in. I had to cut the B pillar and weld in the bung from a '68, but its there just for situations like this!

I did hold up well, glad your OK. If you hit them from behind, won't it technically be your fault? I'd always heard a rear ended is almost always considered the rear persons fault. Their insurance should pay if it was their's. Maybe a whole new car!

It was his fault due to that fact that he u-turned into a closed lane and then jerked back into mine.

volkdent May 14th 2006 19:13

Glad to hear it! Insurance money can go a long way if its used right. Enjoy the rebuild.
