What model Talbot Horizon callipers fit?
Hi
I've found a website that sells new Talbot Horizon callipers http://www.budweg.com. What is the correct model to buy? Steve |
Horizon brake calipers
I am pretty sure the model you need is 81-85 Horizon with Girling brake calipers.
|
I have Horizon calipers on my bug. I can't say which years they came from but they are definitely Girling branded calipers. Hope this helps :)
|
I have tried to get some from them, but apperantly they didnt make anymore.
They had two right or left, but no pairs last time I checked. Hopefully they will make a new batc. |
Hi
Thanks for the help. Maybe if they get enough enquires they may make them again. Steve |
You can write me up for one set at least :)
It`s worth trying again, that`s for sure! |
Hi!
I bought them few mounts ago... http://images.thesamba.com/vw/gallery/pix/297168.jpg http://images.thesamba.com/vw/gallery/pix/297163.jpg http://images.thesamba.com/vw/gallery/pix/297165.jpg I ordered this caliper from local Bugweg distributor and wait for one month... Just now I put them on my bug... |
Hi
Thanks for the information. Reading their catalogue and using your part numbers this is the model that's needed. TALBOT Horizon 02.78-05.81 Front BENDIX 34888 (left) 34889 (right) TALBOT Horizon 09.77-03.81 Front GIRLING 34644 (left) 34645 (right) These are the ones that Acytom used. Do the Bendix ones have the same mountings? Maybe the Talbot used 2 types of stub axles? Now I need to find out if they sell them in Australia. Steve |
Hi AcyTom
How much did you pay for them? Steve |
Steve,
There is a section in the book "How to Modify Volkswagen Beetle Suspension, Brakes , Chassis For High Performance" on installing Talbot Horizon calipers. I'll dig it out tonight for you. Cheers Steve Moran |
Hi!
I paid for caliper about 120 US $ they a few $ expensive then new model. If you can not find a new model then this model is OK. For put them on bug mount you will need a 1 mm space under the caliper mount. Regards! Tomica |
Thanks Steve

Article from book
Steve,
Sorry I forgot I hadn't posted the pics from the book on Talbot Horizon calipers. Here's a pic showing them:- http://www.matara.net/albums/Talbot/IMG_8401.jpg The rest of the article is here:- http://www.matara.net/gallery/Talbot Your not putting them on your 1303 are you? I thought you'd need Porsche 6 pots to stop that STi motor! Cheers Steve M |
Hi Steve
Thanks for that. I bought a 1303 for my son, he gets his licence in a little over a year and I'm just doing a few little things to make it a bit better, plus its my daily driver. Fitting some steel 944 brakes & arms, 17 x 7 BBS wheels, white line rear bar, skinny struts etc.. I scored some early Type 3 callipers with 42 mm pistons instead of 40 mm, these really help make the front brakes bite but I will look into getting the Talbot callipers down here. I kept all the Porsche brakes from my 1302 for the 1303, so it should stop OK. Steve |
