It looks really good man... the steering wheel complements the dash....:D

how is the acuracy of the speedo compaired to the beetle one? Im still looking for a good set of 914 gauges but havent gotten any yet. what size tires and wheels are you using?
|
I just got it (gauge cluster) in and haven't run it yet. I have been told they are the same (both 1to1). The gas gauge registered 3/4 tank on both.
I am running 195/50/16 on the front. I will post results when I get it out on the road. |
with the 914 speedometer, does the cable hook up the same?
|
Went right in and looks to be correct. I will post results when I get it out for a drive. It will be my next days off before I get it out. My other bug developed and electrical problem and I will have to fix it today, then back to work tonight.
|
Looks great !
You have the same setup that I do. The tach seems to be a little 'Slow' if you know what I mean ... it seems to bounce around a bit when I accelerate really hard but when I'm cruising, its steady. The whole setup bolts right in including the speedo cable but one item I had to rig up was the alt light circuit that jump starts the charging system ... had to wire it like my old bug speedo, no problem though. Steering wheel looks awesome, what is the brand ? Sandeep |
The wheel is sold by APC it is made by Grant. I normaly don't like APC stuff but when i saw it I liked it and the price was hard to beat ($65).
I wired the "Gen" and "oil" lights with their own power (2 prong bulb holders). |
Looks good but keep a lookout for a combination oil temp/fuel guage, that helps in the summer.
Nick |
I have the oil temp, oil press, volt and 2 cyl head temp gauges in a center console. I wanted to use the 914 combo gauge for the lights and fuel gauge.:D

Well I fired it up today and gave the gauges a proper ops check. The Tach is a bit slow and bouncy with the clutch in, but driving it seams to be ok. Everything is working good.
|
Good to hear that H20....:D
KUDOS!! John |
Thanks to your tech article I have finally decided on my dash.
I have been undecided for years.:D |
Glad you got something out of it. I like mine.
|
Now if I could only figure out what I am doing with the rest of my car.:befuddled
|
I konw what I want to do and what my $ (or lack of) will let me do, what I get is somewere in between.:D

It's so hard to find the middle ground. I have expensive taste.:) I'm really cheap.;) It's an ongoing battle between my bank account and my bug.:silly: |
YEP, I know what you mean. I'm livin' it.
|
Looks very cool and goes well with the theme of the car, I like it a lot.
|
Thanks Nigel, I bet it would look great in a yellow and black bug too.:D
|
i saw a set of 16" Fuchs the other day...hint, hint...nudge, nudge...wink, wink.:silly:
|
hi
can somebody tell me the outside diameters of those gauges please i wonder if they fit into the stock openings of a typ3 dash?? |
the Tach is just over 4 1/2 inch and the others are just over 3 3/4 inch.
|
hi
thank you i will look to see if there going to fit my sqr tommoro. |
Well I finaly got to take the car out and drive it for about 2 hrs. The speedo registers about 5-7 mph high on the freeway as did the bug speedo due to the 195/50/16 tires on the front. and the gas gauge sweep it slower than the bug, ran out of fuel just before it got to 1/4 tank. At least I ran out while I was opening the gate to pull around to the back of the house and put it in the garage and had some fuel in the shed to get it inside. (note to self, fill up when gauge reads 1/2 tank).
|
I ran out of gas in the gas station about 20 ft. from the pump. Talk about cutting it close.:D
|
hi
ok hate to be a pain but can i gat a real acurate mesurement of the size of the back of the instruments from somebody please not across the face but the bit that go,s into the hole on your dash . the typ3 dash openings are 105mm and 85mm so this is for 100 and 80mm gauges ive a feeling unless i go for some form of custom dash in a typ3 im stuck with stock!!! mesurment given before 41/2 inches equates too 113mm was this across the face or the housing 3 3/4 =94mm. i think im stuck:( |
across the housing is what I gave.
|
hi
many thanks in this case we now know that only the tacho would fit in the type 3 tacho housing the rev counter is to big to fit at all ! now i do need a tacho that is capable of showing over 180kph but i would need a way for it to not look stupid with my 80mm rev counter and fuel gauge that must stay!! any suggestions welcome. |
You could always get custom gauge faces done and install them in your gauges. There is a guy that does them on this site somewere, I just can't remember his screen-name right now. It might be Phat73, post the question on the Interior forum if you are interested in that.
