Strut brace qu's, UK
Hi guys,
As part of my 1303 suspension upgrade I am thinking of fitting an upper strut brace. I have found a few suppliers in the UK but before I buy, has anyone had any experiences of any particular products? which is the best to buy etc... I will be going for unfinished metal not chrome and they are around £40 but which is best I want it for function and not looks. Oh, and if anyone has one for sale let me know! Cheers, Neil. |
I have a Custom and Speed parts item. Its polished aliminium and is very light. It does the job, though its not adjustable. It fitted ok, I had to play with a few of the holes to get it line up though..
If I needed to buy one again, I might go for something adjustable and a bit more heavy duty.. |
I have a front strut tower brace, it is "not chrome", heavy duty, and totally adjustable.
You sould also pull a house with it if you were so inclined.. It is made fron 3/16 mild steel for the strut cap plates, and has a catapillar tractor link for the fuctional part, about $15-20 US, and about 30 seconds of welding, a few more quality moments with a sawzall and drill for the plates. I made the crossbar removable... Pull the pins on the ends, remove the preload, and it slides off. I have been considering painting it with Hammerite, but then its origins wouldn't be as obvious, and to me, that is half the fun. Lemme know, and I'll send pics. |
Thanks guys, I have seen the custom and speed parts item, but it is a bit too expensive. I don't have the skills to make my own up but I know someone who might, that sounds good, but I think I will order one from machine7 for £40 and see what it is like. I had hoped to get one from sparco or OMP but neither do a brace for the beetle.
Thanks again, Neil. |
You may find that the M7 one is actually the CSP one. M7 is a CSP dealer, and thats where I got mine from! M7 doesn't currently show one at all on their site, unless I missed it..
