What Axles do I use for late 944 arms?

Hello,

I have put 87 944 arms on my Ghia. The two sets of axles that I have are too short. The Thing axles are about 19" long, I need appox 21". What are my options? I have the CVs. I know that I can get 911 axles in 21 but I believe that the 911 has a different spline count and they are expensive.

What have other people done?

I'm also curious to see which axles are right for this setup. I recently purchased a complete rear suspension from a 87 944. It came complete with everything but the axles and CV joints. will be used on a beetle though.

You have my answer about axle's already(email). I'm wondering what offset your wells are. The late ali arms add quite a bit of track.

I thought the idea of a board was to share info? Unless you are scared of being sued, could your post "your best guess". Thanks.....JR

My wheels are BIG. I am using 8jx 16 et52's. I have made custom QP's for my Ghia. I'll post when I get some pics.

Thanks for your reply. In your pic, your axle bolts thru your hub. Mine does not. I have stub axles. What year are your parts from?
I am not 100% sure what year my parts are from, I bought them from a friend, and he was not sure what year they were.
Does anyone know what year uses 21" axles and is the spline count the same?

I also had a question about the lower shock mount. That seems to be a large bolt that fits in there. That bolt would be too large to fit the bottom of a shock. Does the 944 have a step-down bolt? Or a better question would be, What kind of lower shock bolt does a late 944 use?

Thats why I always post whenever I email someone. I have learned more from "lurking" than askings.

Use 87 and later 944 axles They work with stock CV joints. 951 axles won't work with Type I CV's, as they have a coarser spline pattern.

so then

944 turbo/951 arms from a 1987 car, have a coarser spline than a 33 splined bug or late bus axle?

i am fitting a complete torsion housing from a 87 in, i am using a 091 late bus trans, can i use the 'cheaper' bus axles?
-or do i have to get 951? as the porsche breakers, break my heart, if type 2 will do....

are they in fact the correct width?

At first I wanted to do a GL Ghia. It morphed into what I now call a "coach-built".
I liked what John Kelly was doing with his fender flares so I copied his. I reshaped some 67 Camaro QP's. (wait for the pics before you call me a crackhead). This is a "use up all the leftover crap in your garage" project.

I also changed the front to a 356A see

After I made large flares for the front, I didnt like how the Ghias front end tucks under at the nose. That was a major reason why I changed to the 356 front. Another reason was that I used to have a 356 kit car and I thought that I could make it flow with the Ghia body. This way I can get my 2 favorite cars mixed into one. My frontend is 'glass so it wasnt that hard. I took a mold off of a friends 356 kit that I was fixing.
I'll post some pics next week.
