New wheels. Contemplating tires.
Hi everyone, I am about to take a step closer in getting my car where I want it but have a question. I am currently refurbishing these wheels and am going back and forth about what tire size I want to run. The fronts will be receiving 205/45 r16, But the rears i am going back and forth between 205/50r16 for the lower profile good looks, and 205/55r16 for the closer to stock gear ratio as I daily drive my car, a lot of which is on the freeway. Will I really notice the difference all that much between the two?

Your speedo will be 9.2% out and will read higher by that proportion (great for bar stories) using the intended font tyres.
The rears will be marginally smaller or 5% smaller. The 50% aspect ratio will affect fuel consumption but I would doubt whether you will notice any accelleration benefit. Besides with the speedo that far out you might even surprise (fool) yourself. If fuel is not a big issue I would stay with the 50% aspect ratio as the slip angles as well as the cars stance will be better balanced front/rear Clive |
Go with the 205/50 like Clive said. It will looks proper with the 45's up front. Post some pics when you get them together. The 205's on those RS's look as though they will have some stretch.:D

I've got those on my baby, 215/40/17 up front and 255/35/18 on the rear, I have yet to really feel like they are letting me down in any situation, and they are pretty quiet to for as much contact as they have, way more quiet and better ride than the BFG KDWs on my M3. They didn't really offer that much grip at the drag strip, but the prep work on the track is really set up for slicks.
