Hey Mooie Kever man ! :D

Is all the turbo work custom or is it a kit ?
Do you have it running ? Would love to hear it run...

Klasse !

Rob.

Blue Thunder December 31st 2004 12:34

Thanks Rob!

I have it running, though I have some problems with the clutch (Stage III KEP with Sachs ceramic/organic disc). I already have a double disc setup from KEP waiting to be transplanted to cope with the clutch slipage

Almost everything is custom made, exept for the header (CB Performance, modified for the KKK K26 turbo).
I made the intercooler from 2 Saab cores and the exhaust and inlettubing from scratch (and HEMA RVS Pollepels :D ).
I have a sprint video (acceleration 0 - 200+) of the car (7Mb) and I'll post a link if you'd like to see it.

(p.s. you can also check out the car on www.keversite.nl)

Robin,

Would love to see the video.
Checked out the site as well, glad to see the Beetle is still popular in Holland :D

Where on the site can I find pics of your car ?

Thanks,

Rob.

boblebaard December 31st 2004 12:49

Yes, please let us hav the link!

Blue Thunder December 31st 2004 13:15

OK, here's the link:

(downloads are limited (25 max) and the link will stay active for only 7 days)

The launch is quite mild to spare the clutch. (With open loop launch control activated I've roasted the clutch several times  )

More pics can be found on www.keversite.nl under fotoalbum/racing and tuning or by clicking on my profile (blue thunder)

Now thats a beautiful car!!! :agree::agree::agree::agree:

justdubbin December 31st 2004 18:08

Very subtle.... Well except the Engine of course, but I like the way the opposition knows that there is a Turbo under the deck lid when you have blown them away :D

Blue Thunder January 1st 2005 08:05

Thanx guys!

There's still quite alot of work to be done (weld the intercooler to become a double chargecooler with a front mounted radiator, machine the flywheel to accept the dual disc clutch, apply a scavengerpump for the turbo (oil outlet), install the complete interior properly, modify the dash to accept a few Porsche gauges, install the waterinjection, etc.....)
Well, enough to be done this year, but I hope to be finished as soon as all the big events start.....

A wonderfull aircooled 2005 to everybody,

Grt. Robin

Wally January 1st 2005 14:29

Hi Robin,

Its very cool to see your car here as well :D I love your alu and stainless welding! Super nicely executed!

I hope you will have your intercooler sucking-in cool outside air very soon ;)

CU,
Walter

Yeah, the engine is ready, but the dyno-guy still is not... :(

I'll keep you posted.

Walter

DORIGTT February 1st 2005 21:50

So...what kind of performance figures do you have for us?

Have you had it dyno'd to give torque and horsepower figures.

Blue Thunder February 3rd 2005 13:02

It hasn't been dynoed yet due to clutch failure: The clutch-combo I'm using is rated to 340Nm, but it starts slipping as soon as you floor it a couple of times...
The new dual-disc combo should be able to withstand 540Nm: as soon as it has been installed (together with the finished chargecooler), it will be finetuned on a dyno....
As soon as it has been dynoed, I'll post the results...

Grtz. Robin

DORIGTT February 3rd 2005 19:40

Thanks! I can't wait to see the results.

Who can tell me in ENGLISH :D what 340 Nm translates into?

Blue Thunder February 4th 2005 13:23

If you devide the Nm number through 1.36 you have the answer in footpound:

In this case: 340/1.36= 250 lbft ;)

About time for an update....

As it has been way too long since I posted some updates:

http://www.keversite.nl/fotoalbum/fotos/117008.jpg

http://www.keversite.nl/fotoalbum/fotos/125808.jpg
http://www.keversite.nl/fotoalbum/fotos/126388.jpg

Engine is now a 2276cc, alu nikasil cilinders, SE modified heads 44x38, SS pistons, Custom Webcam, ultralight valvetrain, Custom coolingshroud, custom stainless header 321, Precision GT3076RLE ballbearing turbo, 44mm Tial wastegate etc.
Gearbox is a fully sequential Elite TXL250-6s with extended gears with billet 6061 alu bellhousing. The geabox is alot longer than the Porsche 901/911 gearbox, so I had to convert to coilovers en cut a gigantic hole in the body/tunnel to get the darn thing to fit....

Still waiting for some parts to put everything together, and hope to get her running soon....

Cheers,

Robin

volkdent June 20th 2013 20:23

Wow, this thing is going to be insane! Keeps the updates coming!

Jason

Blue Thunder June 23rd 2013 05:27

Thanks Jason!
I really hoped to have it on the road waaaay sooner, but somehow these projects always take 5 times longer than you expect....
Especially the coolingshroud took way longer to develop: I think I made about 5 different prototypes before I was happy with it. Just hope it cools the heads and cylinders equally, as this was the main goal for this design.....
