did porsche treat them to stop them oxidising? ive had mine blasted - contemplating anodising or powder coating.

what did porsche do?

treat them as you would alloy wheels i guess.

get them painted, or if you got time on your hands, polish them up :rolleyes: keeping clean would be a bugger though lol.

Use an etch primer or similar.

the spring plate cover ive left outside hasnt changed yet but it only been a week. think il do as you suggest - acid etch prime and paint. just wondered what porsche do :)

From the looks of my control arms and torsion end caps when I got them they didn't do anything to them. I degreased mine and used a wire wheel to shine them up some what, and sprayed them with clear coat.

I agree, Porsche did nothing to protect the alloy finish. I have also cleaned mine up and they look good. I reckon the best finish has got to be hard anodizing which should survive the hostile environment under the car. I think that I would rather occasionally wire wool the oxides off than trusting any paint finish or fork out for anodising. Besides the greasy handling they have had affords some protection.

The corrosion around some of the alloy fixings does raise a few questions as to the suitablilty of alloy in our salt infested environment.

i gues the problem with coating with or painting them is as soon as they chip - water will get under and will start to flake - much like alloy wheels. maybe a quick polish up will suffice for now.

Just a guess, but maybe they used the same oily/waxy coating that they have on the gearboxes, my G50 looks a bit scruffy but a degrease would bring it up shiney...
