I'd seen people use velcro on the doors for a clean look; no screws. Not sure about the rear panels...

petevw December 18th 2007 01:06

I've seen small black screws. Wouldn't the velcro sag/pull off when its really hot?

Steve C December 18th 2007 01:21

Hi

To make it really smooth, can you get hold of nut insert gun or rivenut tool? I use one like this http://www.wurth.com.au/cataloguevie...f=A09_0120.pdf

Steve

chug_A_bug December 18th 2007 11:09

hey Steve

well I have a Small Rivit gun and A Huge one that I can get From work :)
but I was thinking if I rivit it then anything I need to get back there I'll just have to Drill them out.

thanks tho

Chris.

Chris,

The tool Steve is talking about actually rivets a nut to your door, so that you can thread a screw or bolt into it.
I've used them before, pretty slick

Ah yes! Now I remember.... Steve C is referring to a tool that we used at my old work. Technically I wouldnt call it a nut that is riveted into the door, but rather something like an insert. Technicalities aside, those things work REALLY well! Just make sure that you got a SHARP drill bit THE SAME SIZE than the dia. of the insert, otherwise it wouldnt snugly fit once riveted, and give you endless frustration trying to bolt things down(the insert/nut will just spin in it's hole).

I wouldnt mind having one of those tools in my toolbox collection!

Hmmm I have Never Seen one B4 I guess I'll have to go pick one up
if I can Fine one and then it's in the Tool to Share with all.
Hey Alex where Do you think that I can Fine one??

thanks for all the help guys

Chris.

yellrhd December 18th 2007 20:19

I have one of these it works very good even for larger bolts sizes

This link if or the aluminum insert version but if you look further they make a steel insert model as well
http://www.toolsource.com/aluminum-k...-p-101304.html

JC whitney also carries this tool

chug_A_bug December 18th 2007 21:09

Search there's a Fastenal just down the Street that Sells them
So I'll grab one tomorrow :)

Chris.

petevw December 18th 2007 21:42

Chris, try and get a metric tool/inserts.

FeralBug December 21st 2007 20:33

use the stock/factory clips, put them in the stock holes in the door, place some epoxy on the back of the clips, then align the panel into place.

once dried, the panel can be removed and replaced at ease just like the stock vw door panels.
doing it this way eliminates screw holes, giving a clean appearance.
this is how i did it, works perfectly. i hope this is useful.
