Tilton Oil Pump
 

I've been fooling around with the turbo (TD04L-13T from a 2003 WRX) trying to find a place to put it without any cutting of the body. After a day of playing with various possibilities, it turns out that it fits best near the right rear wheel, under the fender, close to the axle.

The BAS header mods will be minimal, but the exhaust from the turbo will dump towards the rear of the wheel, and not go under the trans like the picture above.

I don't have an extra circuit on my DS pump that I can use to scavenge the pump so I was thinking of using this electric Tilton model ... about 180 USD from Summit Racing.

Anyone have any comments as to if this pump will work for my application, or has anybody used one ?

Sandeep, it should work fine. The plumbing can have an impact on it, but for what you are doing it should be fine.

I have worked with the same pump (or atleast it appears to be the same) and it worked well for a 9,000 RPM engine at Bonneville :rolleyes:

I looked at the mounting options for the turbo a little closer and it will fit much better if the oil drain line is not 100% vertical. Can I get away with mounting the drain at about a 30* angle from the horizontal .... the oil will be draining down at a 30* angle instead of straight downword at a 90* angle.

If this is acceptable, then the outlet of the header is a direct straight shot into the turbo inlet :D I can't rotate the exhaust housing to compensate for the drain as the drain is part of the exhaust housing. The compressor can be rotated but this does not help the angle.

I hope I am being clear on this :laugh:

Try locate a picture of Marco Mansi's ('Marcothesteammachine') bug in the wbx/oxyboxer forum. IIRC, his turbo of his first 1,9 wbx turbo also housed in the right rear wheel well, but was closer to the back of the car iirc.
Maybe there is some info on how he drained/pumped the oil there.

the holley only works with very thin oil!!!! otherwise it backs up on itself!!! i now use the tilton pump but had to make a mini sump under the turbo and a breather line fior it aswell!!!

There are other (similar) pumps that you could use as well. Mocal has one (Mocal Differential Cooling Pump), as does Weldon (Weldon 9200A Pump). The Weldo is a nice pump, however it is expensive. Cheers!
