Are the alternators the same
 

I have currently fitted a 2.4L type four motor to my bug. It has the upright fan shroud to take the 11 blade Porsche alternator. The outer diameter of the fan housing has been machined down to fit the upright conversion.
My question is, will the alternator out of a 946 or 993 fit the upright fan shroud. Obviously the fan housing would have to be machined down as to the previous 11 blade, conversion or will it?
Another point is the depth of the 946 or 993 alternator. Will this catch the back of the upright shroud ?
Last question, has anyone fitted one to there type four motor?
