Beetle Link Pin 944 setup?

Just wondering if anyone is using an early Beetle link pin system with 944 NA brakes?

It seems that 2 1/2" drop spindles are available for the Link pin in the drum setup. But I am not sure of how to get a caliper mounted... Probably a mounting plate similar to what is used in my '66 bus setup.

Lanner? :)

It's pretty difficult, because the small diameter of the NA rotor positions the caliper too close to the steering arm. I've done it, but I position the caliper over the steering arm, so the caliper is at about 1 o clock postions (drivers side). You have to remove the caliper to bleed correctly, and the bracket is bolted to the front of the spindle face (where the drum backing plate would go). The offset increase of the setup is in the 10-14mm per side range in order to give room for the caliper bracket (so that it does not interfere with the rotor).

You can do it to the drum spindle, but then the bearings are weird, so I typically do it to the disk spindle (same bearings as BJ bug), but drum is do-able.

Awesome Lanner! Thanks for the info.

One question, do I have to use the later 944S front mount hubs/rotors or is the early 944 setup okay?

Thanks!

It doesn't really matter if it's late or early, either way I machine the hubs for beetle bearings.

Thanks Lanner! Give me a couple months to get this car apart and I will be sending you some goodies to cut up ;)

Take Care,
