Door loom

I saw in Hot VWs when they installed speakers in the door panel that they used a pair of plastic wire looms to get the wiring from the trunk to the door.

I have contacted Watsons Streetworks who sold the kit to the magazine and the wanted over $100 in shipping to Sweden for a pair of looms for $15.

Do you know somebody else who sells this kit?

Would it be easier to make your own? Rubber grommets and tubing should be easy to get. ;)

Don't need those tubes. Drill a couple holes, insert grommets, and that's it.

Hi

What about the terminals that Vanagons use on the sliding doors? They are bit like these ones from Machine 7 in the UK. http://www.machine7.com/section.php?xSec=1192

I tried that. The wiring broke internally after about 3 years of flexing.

I used rubber grommets available from the local hardware store. Drill the holes where you're going to run the wires through the door and the pillar. Install the grommets with a light coating of grease where the wires will come into contact with the grommets.

You don't need that bulky tubing for speaker wires. Just buy some shrink tubing, run the wires through the tubing and heat it with a hair dryer or heat gun. This will protect the insulation on the wires and prevent chaffing. Very simple and effective way to run wires into the doors.

Total cost...about $10 US including the speaker wire.

It's simply Nylon tubing, standard nylon grommets and rubber grommets. Go to any good hardware store. You should be able to pickup everything you need for less than $5...
