Location of Turn Signal Relay in Circuit?

I've just totally rewired everything in the front end of the bug, new switches for everything, relays for everything. I added an S2000 starter button but had some serious issues and eventually I think I even burned it, and myself, out. New one ordered, so I should be back in action, but in the meantime I've got another funny issue...

When I put the ignition on, the turn signal relay starts to blink, not the lights, just the relay and the turn signal indicator light in the speedo. When I turn the turn signal switch on, left or right, each side lights up correctly and blinks for the actual indicator bulbs in the fenders.

I havn't got into too much, I was burned out on the starter issue, and maybe I'll run into something that makes the issue clear, but so far I'm kinda at a loss. Any clues?

I had a similar issue with my 'wire from scratch'. From memory it was to do with the polarity of the feeds, there was an error in the diagram I was working from.. Might have been something to do with the change to electronic relay?

Thanks Rich, turns out it was an odd effect commonly used in automotive wiring, you have to hook up the (-) of the LED/bulb to the control/output of the signal relay and the (+) to any 12V (+) source. Its not a normal ground, but between pulses of (+) exiting the relay, the same post acts as a (-)ground that will light the dash indicator. The relay is turned on with a load, so what was happining is that just the indicator LED would trigger the highly sensitive LED specific relay to turn on. If you can see both, you'll notice that the turn signals will blink alternating with the dash signal indicator. All good now, just have to sort out a faulty S2000 starter switch...

That does sound like the issue I had, glad you fixed it! Maybe it's something to do with the relay type, my instrument light flashes alternately with the external lights too..
