6 cylinder subaru in a beetle

I just came across this whilst doing some research.Thought some of you subaru conversion converts may appreciate it.http://bb.bbboy.net/vwengineconversi...d=72&postnum=0

Right on

I bought a Subie SVX engine core just to see how it fits, and now this site very nice site.

I still think Subaru 4 cyl. swaps make no sense at all, but the EG33 is an engine I have liked for many years!
Great read and a writer that Randy type is.
tnx for sharing.

But the EG33 is just an EJ22 with an extra couple of cylinders...

Wally January 3rd 2013 17:45

That couple of cylinders extra makes all the difference...

It was when I saw this vid that my love for the EG33 was born I think.
Now this sounds like a mans engine: :D

Hi everyone, there's a small talk on the SVX on John Edward costa mesa r&d. John has made much larger cylinders for the SVX, he also states that the engine should reach 1k horse power.

I think I've read somewhere that there are more modern heads for the SVX rather then the simease exhaust, any infor on the updated heads?

I'd like to know if his modded oil pan will fit the SVX, I emailed him but no response.

Anyone knows what version is this SVX?

Wally January 8th 2013 03:48

Andy Forrest (uk) already gets 1013 hp from his twin GTX3076R turbo'd EG33 and runs low 8's with it(!)
For this year he will try a real build block with twin GTX35's so 1200 hp is expected...

In a bus yes I would agree with you but in a bug most people would agree it's the EG33 that makes absolutely no sense and the EJ that is the logical choice.

They are a big heavy motor and as seen its a case of making the bug fit the engine not the other way around.
Last thing you want is more weight in the back of a bug and half the body cut away.

An EJ engine just falls in place and in standard form most of the turbo engines match if not better the EG33 for power and torque.
Not to mention the fact that EG33s are getting pretty old and rare as rocking horse shìt where as EJ are everywhere.

Wally January 10th 2013 07:03

Joel,
You totally misinterpreted my side-remark. Even though I think my views are pretty well-known about the topic (but even if they don't, who really cares), this is not the place to discuss that, so lets not go there.

Thanks,
Walter

SVX eingine

I think Walter and I were referring to the very large amount of horse power the SVX engine is capable of out putting. I myself have come to far to turn back now in my project, but if I had it to do again; I wouild have chosen the SVX

in this pic, it been awhile so back then the talk was to go with the lighter valve train as possible, so I went with 356 lifters, Now I'll have to have the bores re-done for type one lifters. That case have been heavly modded to accept type one extry sump.

There is no oil cooler attachment or pressure relief valve setup on my project. I hope to one day get it done, it been way to long. We are type IV lovers, but for the money and horse power, I would have flip-flop in a New York minute for the SVX and its horse power output.

From the look of the intake manifold, that looks like an EZ30R. That's the same engine in my Ghia.

noslzzp February 9th 2013 10:44

Here's a pic of my setup (probably should start a build thread here):
http://www.basilari.com/wp-content/u...6666922725.jpg
This is the EZ30R motor that was posted early, it has the variable cam lift system (AVCS) where I don't think the EG33 does.

Wally February 9th 2013 13:19

Thought I read somewhere that the 30R is a less strong engine then the EG33 for some reason (?). That would only be worth mentioning in case of turbocharging of course.
Do you plan on turbocharging yours?

ricola February 9th 2013 14:53

From memory the EZ30 has quite an open deck block design but can be sleeved or inserts fitted to support the cylinders. There's the EZ36 too but I think the cylinders are a bit too thin for boost so the EZ30 is normally preferred out of the modern options..

effvee February 10th 2013 23:38

Nice taste

Wow, very nice taste:D

has anyone made a oil pan for the 6 Subie?

One of the main hold backs of installing a 6 cylinder Subie into any bug is the oil pan. Has someone produced one as yet?

Why do you say this? The pan in the EZ30R is more shallow than the pan in the EJ motors:

plan

Hi, what I ment was, wether this issue of sump debth being ok for aVW beetle. . Do you have any close ups of the pan? There was a link on a person moding a EZ33 into a bug. He has not posted for some time now, and some of his last posting were on possibly having to go with a dry sump.

Do you have any close up of the pan installed, while it's still in the engine bay.
Lastly what is yours sump capacity? Would the EZ30 oil pan fit the EZ33?

www.subaru-svx.net I started searching for (svx) sites. Between Walter and I sharing the two high horse power mini movies,I would like to know how far can this platform be taken. I have a bare bones block, it came with a flex plate,I also bought the adapter.

John Edwards of Costa mesa r&d had also a mini movie of the block having steel sleeves installed, per his statement that engine is capable of 1000 horse power. A strong 500, would be good enough for me.
