Final assembly.
Some pics. I painted the interior, jambs, and front and rear compartments Porsche Iris blue (L39V) here at home, then dropped the body back onto the pan for the last time. After assembling the front suspension, I hauled it to a friend's shop for the exterior paint. I've been working on wiring for 2 weeks, and finally got it sorted, gauges working, and lights burning. I still have to add a fuse holder for the driving lights, and fuel pump.
Made the muffler mounting today from BMW tranny mounts, and aluminum straps. http://images.thesamba.com/vw/gallery/pix/354834.jpg http://images.thesamba.com/vw/gallery/pix/354835.jpg http://images.thesamba.com/vw/gallery/pix/354837.jpg http://images.thesamba.com/vw/gallery/pix/354842.jpg |

One more... This shows the aluminum mounting plate for the coil, ballast resistor, and fuel pressure regulator, and a pic from the front.

nice work man :) :agree:

Thanks. It feels good to finally see how it's going to really look with the color.
Makes me feel stoked about building this car again. I'm waiting for my friend at the body shop to fix a couple of maximum flow indicators that ended up on the drivers side fenders, but other than that, the finish is done. :D I'm still a ways out from being finished. I think the car needs to be about an inch lower in the rear, and a half inch in front. I also have to open the engine back up and install the right oil pump pickup tube for a GE case. |
Yeti,
Thanks for the updates. Your car looks great, I am looking forward to seeing it. |
how nice is that gonna look! what are these maximum flow indicators? good job

Runs in the clear coat. I ended up with some maximum depth indicators (trash under the clearcoat) under the front decklid, but I'm not worried. |
Nice work. I love the dash.:agree:

Wiring all those dash lights, and gauges was a bonafide nightmare because I retained all the factory vent and defrost ductwork. Made it pretty tight back in there. I also had to lengthen a few wires, which I soldered, and insulated with heat shrink tubing. If I'm done by Sept, I'll drive it to Taccoa fer sure. |

Sweet mercy, can't you just see my genuine excitement over all this...:D http://images.thesamba.com/vw/gallery/pix/355683.jpg
Really though, I can't stop working on it. The only reason I posted this is cause I had to come inside and eat a sammich before I passed out! |
That shot belongs on a CD cover.

I posted a better one on The Samba... |
hey Yetibone, your car looks great, well done!
those are early aluminium rear trailing arms, right? and Boxster wheels? The offset on those rear wheels is ET50mm right? How much wider than stock are the rear wings (fenders) you have on? thanks and best of luck with the finish :) |

I have 38mm spacers, and the fenders are 76mm wider on each side. With the late 951 arms, you would have very close to the same look, without the spacers. |
