narrowing 944T trailing arms

has anyone considered narrowing 944 aluminum trailing arms?

just though this might be an option for someone that wants to run the aluminum arms & 944T brakes, but doesnt want to run wider fenders/wings.

Is it an aluminum that can be safely welded on? I've heard that some "cast" items won't hold up to welding but that may only apply to iron.
My narrowed arms should be in any day (any day in December or January or February or...:( )

Hey Panelfantastic, I've got an ACE in my pocket, and I'll play it for you. The gent thats making the NTA's for you, wants first crack at some old off-road VW racing junk that I have. When I talk to him, I'll rib him... and tell him, " IF YOU GET PANELS STUFF DONE, I'LL FIND THOSE PARTS THAT YOU WANT", (in a joking way).

Hey...You never know, might work.

Thanks, at this point I'll take any help I can... I have talked to him several times (a week ago, a month ago, six weeks ago....) and he has always been very nice. Swears I'm next. A really nice personable guy and from the pics I've seen, outstanding work. Gave me a great tip on the right size radiator for my bus.

...but right now, I just really want my arms.

I don't get it. Why don't you just put stock trailing arms back on it? The alum trailing arms do nothing for you but create this problem.

There is 4 Porsche breakers within 1 hour of me and I've seen crashed cars with broken aluminium arms at 2 of them. They fractured at the bearings. I would not consider narrowing these arms. I have a pair in my garage along with some flared wings but I have decided to stick with stock Day Moulding wings and steel arms. As an Engineer I ruled out narrowing in an instant. The boundries of the cooling weld will render the part useless. I have no idea what the alloy contents are for these arms.

I may use these arms on a 1200cc GL trike with a narrowed T1 torsion housing, T1 axle shafts and 2 HUGE Cup wheels. One day maybe...

Matt
