Tell us your ideas for speed

There are many factors that increase speed. Horsepower (Carbs, turbo's, injectors), weight (Carbon Fiber body parts), wheels (weight, diameter), electronics (Ignition, distributors, coils, plugs, wires), lubricants (rumors over certain oil that add HP), exhaust, etc. Though we all want to be the fastest in the block, if you have ideas or suggestions lets see the list.

Cheapest to Expensive options. Normal to Crazy. Simple to Hard

this is the newest thing for me, what do you think guys? abug with an aircooled 16V boxer engine...sounds great..isn,t it?

Thats the crazy stuff I'm talking about.

I was thinking we should build virtual engines via this forum in different price ranges with maximized power and components (as mentioned above).

Just an idea to help those out looking for max performance.

Bogara_ZO May 22nd 2007 17:13

great idea, it would be useful also for me... I'll upgrade my stock typ4 as I have $$...but having the correct ideas means less $! so do it guys!

elev8_dude May 22nd 2007 22:47

We can do Type 1 and Type 4 to start.

Type 1's 1915, 2007 etc. Again something in the range of affordability and drivability with maximum power and components. Also Type 4's.

We need to pick a Type and size and start. Would love to see where we end up. Also see if any body has the Dough to build the virtual engine.

Just thinking out loud.

P.S. It would be a bias choice for me to start with a Type 1 1915cc ;)

Hello guys,
Its been a while since my last post...
I will update my other post...

About making a virtual engine, ive started already about 1 month ago, and it is a pain... im doing it just for me cos i got software to do it, but i will have a spare engine to measure from mid july where i will be back home, but i will start working again on that by september. Also trying to make a 3d model of a 16 valve similar to the one Bug@5 speed has on his website.

The virtual engine doesn't have to be with software rather on paper and we can discuss the components. Just an idea to help us guys new guys.

Well since this is about brainstorming ideas.... how about a 16 valve engine, with a desmodromic valvetrain?

in case you are unfamilier:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Desmodromic_valve

or maybe solenoid operated valves?
http://rbowes1.11net.com/dbowes/index.htm

get those ideas flowing!

@eleV8-dude: you forgot aerodynamics. imho one of the most important factors in reaching higher speed.

No, that won't get you at high speed on the Autobahn: it'll probably melt before you even reach the highway...
It needs to be something that will stay alive for a little longer than 10 seconds or 402 meters
and have a 'VW' stamp on the engine case as well, otherwise you could just Suby or V8 the thing and be done with it..

Veedub June 1st 2007 00:56

how bout a high reving 1641cc? thats what I want, something that will be reliable but run 6-7k no prob, not that Id rev it that high though, but just tfor bragging rights to say it can rev that high

Pillow June 12th 2007 21:18

VeeDub, that can totally be done. You just need the right cam and valvetrain to pull it off... Granted for the money you might as well build a bigger engine at the same time.

Aerodynamics, yes. Granted I am really at a blank on what can help a Beetle much?

Lighter weight, yes. The Lexan windows are a cheap way to loose some weight.

As for motor work = Turbo. more torque and power from the same size engine. Fuel injection as well to help maker the engine efficient.

Gears perhaps?

elev8_dude June 13th 2007 17:59

Thanks interesting, never thought about the glass.

I know that there are also several topic on aerodynamic, but nothing much can really be done. (correct if I'm wrong.

chug_A_bug June 14th 2007 19:41

hey guys juust jumping in on this one :righton:
but I know if you Shave the door handles and rain Gutters and anything else to make less Drag that would help and add A Kamei Front Spoiler that helps alot.
Lower the bug Closer you can get it to the Ground the better without rubbing

just a thought

Chris.

hell ya 16v heads i think would really make a type 1 or 4 engine come alive
i've seen a couple diff sites on the net where guys have gone to overhead cams
(porsche 911 heads) required tons of mods but it looked cool 4 valve per cylinder heads and overhead cams could make your powerband very long!!
