Custom Speedometer Work
The way the gauges are going to be in my car for the foreseeable future, I want to tweak my stock speedo.
I want the speedo to appear similarly to the way it does currently but with two differences: (1) I want the speedo to have a maximum of 120 or 140 MPH -- doesn't really matter which as long as it is greater than 90 MPH. (2) I want the updated speedo calibrated to my current front tires. My current speedo is roughly 5% off (reads 60 but actually is about 57). Who does this sort of work? I wouldn't mind the odometer being reset to zero, too, but that is not so imperative. |
search on here or get with BillK. his gauges are unbelieveable. expensive, but very nice.

I think you are referring to the "Gauge Art" thread. If I totally redo my dash in the future, it will be in a somewhat similar direction.
Right now, I want the stock speedo to still look stockish -- except I want 120 or 140 MPH to be the maximum instead of the current 90. And, of course, I want it to be more accurate than the 5% off it is now. The stockish look goes with the VDO and Westach gauges. I also want to keep the internal gas gauge, the various warning and indicator lights as well as the turn signal. North Hollywood Speedometer is the place I believe that did the very fine work. Their site makes it seem they are geared towards Porsche 911 and 914 gauges, and wonderful custom work using them. I suppose if there is no one-stop shop that can do what I want, I can fetch a stock speedo from one of the usual suspects, have some place make a custom face for the increased top speed, and fins another place to install and recalibrate it to make it accurate. I was hoping to avoid all that. Perhaps my plan is more out of the ordinary than I thought. |
You can reset your own odometer to zero. I tried a few ways but found the best way was to just take the whole thing apart and roll the numbers back by hand.

ER, you're right. Since I will probably buy a replacement speedo first, then farm out the manipulations I want, I might as well reset the odometer to zero myself.
w247, I will give them a call later today if I get a break in the action.. Thanks, both. :) |
