How come he choose a split and not a 02-03 instead. Splits are a rare sight now it would be a shame to modernize it.

Lee...

What seats are going on that pan?

I have the later mounts too but I'm worried that it will mean a seat (bucket/porkie/or similar) will be too high. I'm considering removing the "hump" and welding in a couple of crossbars to bolt a seat runner to.

thx.

Bruce. May 26th 2011 05:22

Thx Lee.

My brother used 924 seats on 3-point bases and had to cut'n'shut a lot to mount them low enough. I guess a bucket is a bit easier (bolts to the side on yours?)

I'd appreciate a photo of the adapted bases/runners if you have one.

cheers.

I made up some ally plates that bolt to the seat and then bolted them to the 03 runner ,simples.you could always cut and shut the runners so they sit lower ?

Bruce. May 26th 2011 08:10

:)

That's perfect, just what I was looking for.
Gives me some confidence that I can make the stock runners work.

Thanks :goodjob:

evilC May 26th 2011 10:43

On our '03 I welded an inverted channel (n) down onto the seat hump and bolted the standard Alfa seat rails to that. The height with Alfa 116 seats is perfect for me but my wife has to use the spring seat raiser to lift it up for her comfy position - she's 5'4".

I take the view that anything used on the road should have a comfy seating position for the driver but the passenger can be down on thye floor if necessary. the driver needs maximum visibility to his instruments and the roads around him as well as being close enough to the wheel and gear lever for maximum control.

Jason

We hav'nt cut any thing yet, just unpicked the factory spot welds on the front valance and the spare wheel well and they will go back in after the front is finished, also only moved the rear body to shock tower mounts, so its hardly been touched for the match up.Like i said this shell was modified years ago by the Scandinavian drag racer, hardly an og split bug ,any way who cares what year they are, I,am only interested in modifying vws, stockers are for buffers.:lmao:

70Turbobug June 12th 2011 11:12

I really like your projects so far, very well done and with your own individual touch. However, I think the split will be the best one.The 03 floorpan with the shorter wheelbase is something I had always thought about.I don't have the fab skills to make it happen though.Good luck and I'm really looking forward to following your updates!

Cheers , just fabbing the cage mounts, waiting for the Cromo/t45 steel to turn up and then its all go on the cage and front end strut mounts, going to be using our slimline L.A.P struts and a new product we are bringing out, cro-mo bottom drop arms with rose joint/uniball inner mounts off the pan, might make some shorter ones for this car so we can get FAT porsche wheels and rubber under the front end;).

Cage boxes under construction.......

The old green machine has still got it :)

Was flicking throught the Total VW feature a few weeks ago. I was looking for the tyre sizes you're running with the stock wings but it didn't mention them.

Yep , everybody still says that, and i have to agree after my 2 day blast about in it, the old terminator has still got it, she runs a 2.4cc typ4 now, its 12 years since i started that car.

7x16 cups all round 205x55 on the back, 195x45 on the front car has our first ever set of slim lines on the front aswell.

TSAF June 23rd 2011 11:59

Lee the yellow on your avatar looks really mean. I have seen a few photos of this car on your site.
