After putting ~ 2500 kms in the clock Christmas arrived again
http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-f1EEDkiV1n...151224_001.jpg And things has been changed for 2016. I have to move to a flat with no garage so the car has to go  If interested or know somebody who might want a nice GL, let me know. Check the For Sale section for infos. Can send pictures of every single part of the car. |
That is extemely unfortunate mate! I feel for you and hope things work out for the best.

Let's say this was the main reason, of course I can always rent a garage but had to realize that I am too busy nowadays for a hobby like this and money is always welcome when moving... Just put 2500 kms in it during last year, have no time at all to work on it. Really don't want to let it sit in the back of a garage, was built to be driven so hopefully somebody can enjoy it from this side too. But if I can not find a new home for it, I will finish every single bolt as planned at the beginning. |
So, the season started..
First there was the annual Spring Meet (http://sleepair.blogspot.co.at/2016/...meet-2016.html) and last weekend an other event continued after a 5-year brake, the Volks&Roll (http://sleepair.blogspot.co.at/2016/...unlachaza.html) I liked it very much even in the past, mainly because there are every kind of cars of the era not just VWs which can race against each other on the dragstrip. As the oppurtunity was given, I tried both the car and myself on 1/4 mile. I made only 3 heats 15.9, 16.4 and 15.8 which is not bad for 2000ccm in a fully loaded (full trunk, full tank, 2 persons etc) car & tall gearbox (3.875&0.89 4th). It was not build for drag but always good to know being in the ballpark of 15s. For reference an e28 525i BMW with LSD, and a Golf1 with 2.0 16V run exactly the same times, while a 996 4s did 13.9 on the track. I think with a bit of practice, punishment (shifted into 4th, changed gears around 6k) and more aggressive launch it should perform around 15.00. https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-r0a0xLl-z...77-Picture.jpg Attempt 1 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sA4VKWINKMQ Attempt 3 - The Opel guy was not very happy at the end :D https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CvNiJx_XYTI For pictures click on the links in the text above. Now I am curious of the exact torque and hp, I will put it on a dyno soon. I am expecting 130-140 hp at the flywheel. |
Lovely as always..
I can see how you would want to sell; Once the car is 'done', what's to do? :p What was the spec on the motor? Was curious how it ended up.. 15 flat is pretty fast! Drag racing = run it right up until it almost blows up; Hard to do if you built with love.. |
Hi
What are the other ratios in your transmission. I'm tossing up ideas for a gearbox for my sons bug, going 3.875 with 2.9 1st and 1.9 2nd, just not sure about 3rd & 4th. Would like to keep it good for freeways but Im worried that a tall 4th like yours will make it bog going from 3rd to 4th. Motor will eventually be a 2442 oxy boxer so bags of torque I don't know how you could bare to sell such a beautiful car. Cheers Steve |

It's a 2056 cc built for cruising not racing with Raby internals, reworked 914 heads (44x38) and 44 IDFs. Low end torque is impressive (drives easily in 4th in town) but revs happily to 7k. Drag is not my cup of tea and absolutely not the purpose of this car..it is more about handling which is the best part of it I think. |

It's a Rancho Pro Street, 3.875 & 3.80, 2.06, 1.48, 0.89. Was hesitating on the 0.82 "freeway cruiser" but after driving one I abandonned the idea immediately as the gap felt enormous between 3rd and 4th, no way in town (ie under 80 km/h). With my relative small overall diameter (205/45x16) I am doing 130 (GPS) km/h @ 3900 which is something i can live with. With a torque master like your oxy I would suggest it as a good combination between town/freeway but depends what you are buliding that car for. Now it is sitting in a rented garage while I am moving, than I will see if I can find any other solution  |
