Silver Dollar Showdown Help Needed

I'm not sure how many are going to this event Sun. March 11th, but Kathy asked me if any of us could help them out with the "Car Show" part of the event. She normaly makes sure that the help gets in free. If anyone is going to go to this one and would like to help out, we should do a club chat and have Kathy join us. She does alot for our hobby and I always try to help her out anytime I can.

wrenchnride247 January 29th 2007 22:21

I'll be there, but with wife, and rugrats in tow. Can help an hour here, or there maybe. :)

Lazarus January 30th 2007 12:06

i still havent decided if im gonna go or not. i would really like to help out if i go. i told kathy at bugfair i would go if she put my car on the trophies or shirts this year:laugh:  dont get me wrong i would rather have a shirt with NOH's car than a trophy with the BK cars on it. all kidding aside i really want to go. let us know when the chat session is and i will try to be there.

massIVe 79 vert January 30th 2007 14:01

I don't think Jake and I will make it to this one. He and Len are racing in Rockingham the weekend before and it's hard to be away 2 weekends in a row...especially during tax season. We'll just have to play it by ear.

Massive Type IV January 30th 2007 21:29

We won't be there.

Pillow January 31st 2007 22:52

On the same note, is anyone going to the BKC dyno day?

http://bkcruizers.com/forums/viewtop...d8c83cc24cbc5e

Just wondering if the VKG T4 posse will lay some heat to the rollers ;)

NO_H2O January 31st 2007 23:48

Keep up Pillow. Most of use will not be going to that show due to one of the BKC folks showing there @$$ to us concerning this event. (I bet you can guess which one).

Pillow February 1st 2007 21:41

Gotcha, I thought it might be that we were just not going to be part of the sponsorship this year. I did not realize it was a total boycott in effect.

Cool with me.

L_D February 2nd 2007 14:45

You know, I thought we got over this. Talk about childish crap!

The BKC would NEVER boycott a local event. I can't believe yall are doing this, letting one person get to you like that. Take him for what he is and go on with it.

We need to forget about what went on and pull together and support ALL events we can or there will be less and less to go to.

The BKC will support any event yall have like we have in the past no matter what. Hell, I paid to dyno at the FL. event just to support what was going on that day,AND DID NOT DYNO, didnt want to.

This hobby is more than just one person.

LD

NO_H2O February 2nd 2007 17:22

There is no boycot. Any VKG member who wants to attend the BKC Dyno Day can do so and the rest of us will not say a thing to them. In our metting to pick "Club Events" or events that we would make an extra effort to get together at, we didn't VOTE to slate the BKC Dyno Day as a "Club Event" for 2007. Every member had the opportunity to vote on the events they would like to get together at. I'm sure most members will attend events in their area that the rest of the members will not attend. That does not make them bad events, they just arent on the list of club events for 2007. When the 2007 Dyno Day was brought up in our meeting, it was not a popular topic and didn't make the list. That is not to say that some of our members can't go to it or will be frowned upon for going, we do not opperate that way. We do not bash anyone for going to or not going to events. In my case, I have 3 vacation days to use between now and June. I do not have weekends off the month of March so I must choose between going to the BCK Dyno Day and going to the first SCCA event that of the year with Jake & Len to support their new F-Production race effort. The fact that neither Jake or Len have ever showed their @$$ to me coupled with the fact that road racing will always be cooler than drag racing or a Dyno Day in my book, made it an easy choice for me. My vacation will be spent going to the race event were that effort will be appreciated and I will feel welcome. Maybe next year my days off will fall so that I do not have to make the choice of were to use my limited vacation time. But when I made that choice, I did factor in our treatment over this event. I can't speak to the reasons for the rest of our members that voted, but I am sure they are very similar.
Remember, WE never said that we will Boycot the BKC Dyno Day. Our members will make their own CHOICES in that mater. I am over it. I made a choice. If the proverbial shoe were on the other foot, I'm sure the outcome would be similar.

NO_H2O February 2nd 2007 19:05

As far as the correcting of "childish" behavior. I can only think that you addressed the wrong party by mistake. There was some "childish" behavior involved, but please properly direct your correction to "childish" one.

massIVe 79 vert February 2nd 2007 19:06

We are over it LD....WAY over it. We're all big boys and girls here. We can make up our own minds about which events to attend, or not attend, without having to explain ourselves to anyone. This includes the BKC.

If you'll remember, this all started when we (the VKG) were told that the BKC was losing interest in holding this event and we wanted to step in and keep the event from fizzling out. It was made VERY clear to us that the BKC would be handling this event themselves and didn't want or need our help and input. We were asked to back off and let you have the event and that is what we are doing. Now we are being bitched at for not attending .... which way do you want it?

Anyway, good luck with it all and we hope you have a good event. Any successful aircooled event is thumbs up in my book and I'm sure the rest of the VKG agrees.

NO_H2O February 3rd 2007 00:06

Damn,
And I even hooked them up with an alternate Dyno Shop (a friend of mine opened) right down the road, so if AllSpeeds constuction schedule doesn't speed up (it doesn't look good right now) and they are'nt ready by March 10th, the BKC will still have a very nice place to have the event within a couple miles of their original plan.
And still we get a reaction like this.

This is what I see. I dont care if yall choose this as an event to come to as a club, that was not my point. The "total boycott" was.

All is good. We wont be looking for yall.

NO_H2O February 3rd 2007 00:34

Pillow used the word "Boycott" . He can go to the event if he would like.

petevw February 3rd 2007 03:52

Just letting Y'ALL know this GL member will be there, not with my super ('cause she's blown) but helping out/supporting another Canadian aircooler, doing the long haul again.

Last year, i was dissapointed that it was said, everyone competing had to run mufflers and fanbelts. Those that placed top 3 pulled their belts and 4th spot belonged to my fanbelted, mufflered 2332. We pulled the car 16+hrs to attend the dyno/showdown events, to follow the rules and get snubbed was disappointing.:(

I tried to get the on the rollers again to pull the belt, and was not allowed to. I know i could have won, i was less than 10hp away turning a 911 fan.

I don't think this event should be boycotted by anyone in the aircooler scene. I ranted once upon a time, when the VKG/BKC issue was going on, saying i will not attend again. Truth is, there are not many HP events like this around my parts so i have to travel to hear ACVW's scream. Attended: Florida's VKG Dyno day at Fishers, Georgia's Dyno day and Street challenge, and Vegas a couple months back for the show/race. You guys don't know how lucky you are.

Will anyone of you guys come up to Toronto to support our event?
http://www.germanlook.com/Forums/showthread.php?t=8285

See-ya next month. Can't wait to see BRE run again. Should be fun.

For the record, I asked about when would be the latest one could sign up because mid-August may be a date I could attend.

For the record, no one answered -- not even with an "I don't know yet" or "We need ten by a certain date" or "We have a certain number as a cutoff" or something.

That high-sounding pep-talk contained within said thread becomes pretty stinking hollow when an interested party is ignored.

Sorry no one answered. I don't know. We have a meeting coming up in a couple weeks, and i'm sure Lanner (Flat) will share the details. We've talked about a Dyno Day for a couple years, and this announcement has been a great surprise to everyone.

Here's a pic from outside Allspeed last year (photo from sevwa.com):

Thanks for the support Pete, it dont go unnoticed.

We have rules this year about the belts and mufflers which WILL be enforced. We also have the dyno all day so extra pulls can be made at no cost.

...........

Massive Type IV February 3rd 2007 22:16

Pete,
You'll have another reason to head south to display HP sometime later in 2007, probably the end of the summer to mid- fall... This event will culminate VW and Porsche owners of Aircooled vehicles in a full weekend of fun with a CASH purse for the winners of several classes! Stay tuned...

Even I am "over" what happened back in the fall with the whole dispute over the event in question. I always had fun at the event in the past and I still believe that this event is the most practical event of the entire season as it allows guys to see what they have created, compare build sheets and talk smack.

I know when to leave something alone and just let it go... We have a full plate this year with a brand new SCCA race team in it's first year of competition with a Porsche 914, a new (second) dyno lab just being finished and I still have to finish Beth's car along with 3 very demanding engines by this summer.

So I hope you guys have a good event, we'll be doing everyone a favor and staying in the Mountains, where we belong.

Pillow February 3rd 2007 22:43

MY BAD!

I misspoke when using the word boycott. I did not mean to imply that I speak for VKG as a whole on this event in who or who not goes to the event.

If I was still in the area I would be there. I hope the event goes off smoothly and with great participation from the VW community.

Sorry for the confusion guys :(

NO_H2O February 3rd 2007 23:39

Not your bad Pillow. Just some folks tring to pick at an old scab. Not sure what they want. They raised hell over this event when we tried to carry it on because they didn't want to. When we picked up the dead ball and started to run with it, they cried foul at the last minute and acted shocked even tho we asked if they were going to drop the event and that we wanted to run with it if they bowed out. Then they asked that I delete the thread in which at least one of them showed their @$$ so it would not look bad on them. I did and we mad no public comments about it after it was over. Then when some of us don't want to make the extra effort in money, prep, or expended vacation time to go drink from the well that they poisoned. They have the nerve to come in here again and say that walking away quietly, saying no more and staying away from an event that they did not want us to have a part in, is some how "Childish Crap". I don't get it.

southeastvw February 4th 2007 00:21

You guys just let me know who can help out here or there on show day. I may need someone at the gate too. I know I will need someone directing the show cars in their area and parking them. Will be doing some rearranging with the show car paperwork. Many times we get cars in the show area that do not come and register. We learned alot at our indoor show on Jan 28th and want to get those things we learned into effect for the rest of our shows.
Will need some judges too. So if you can;t be there early or only can help for just a tad bit, that would be for you. Everyone that volunteers, will get free admission and maybe something else.
Just keep me informed.

No comment on the other portion. Hell I haven't even read it all yet! Just jumped on the computer for a few min before getting Luci to sleep.

L_D February 4th 2007 11:23

Bottom line is the BKC Dyno Day will go on. It will be a great show and be run smoothly. The BKC will support BOTH events that weekend and have no hard feelings against anybody.
Dave repost the thread if you like, I can see it doing wonders for all involved.

Like I said we NEED to support all events we can or they will dissappear.

Thats all I got to say.

So....... That means I can expect the BK to participate in the fall event we are planning now??? (probably the day before Toccoa)

Just wanted to clarify that....

I am sponsoring the SEVWA Street Car Challenge, even though we won't be in attendance. There are things that can be done to support the community without being present- thats what I decided to do...

:agree: I don't see why not! .... if your going to have room for trailer parking.....

Massive Type IV February 4th 2007 13:25

Pete, it's still being planned so I don't know everything at this point...

What we are trying to execute is a weekend of Aircooled Performance for both VW and Porsche enthusiasts...

The classes will be set up to choose winners based on power output per liter of displacement and we'll have different classes so most anyone could win, not just the guy with the monster engine.

Yes, CASH prizes will be awarded for all classes for both marques. The location for the event is still up in the air. I am half tempted to buy a Chassis dyno and have it at "Aircooled Heaven"!

This event will have a level of organization and logistical support that most haven't experienced.

Smiff February 11th 2007 01:12

When you have your event Jake the southside BK guys will be there. We support the AC VW community..... Save some trailer parking for me too

southeastvw March 6th 2007 22:17

Hey guys!
Still could use a few more folks to help.
Dave and wrenchride is going to be in charge of the show car parking in the morning. I need a few judges too.
Hope some of you can make it out. Looks like it is going to be another good event!

NO_H2O March 8th 2007 01:19

Anyone else going? Step right up.
Wrench, his crew and I will be watching the old school cars run Sat. night, having a couple cold brews and camping. I have the audio system done in the bus ao we will have to see how many tunes can be played before the aux. battery runs out. 3 massive amps (1360 watts total), 2 ea. 12 inch subs and 8 ea. full range speakers. I think I could heat up my breakfast in the bus with that system.  :agree:

WOW! Ya'll pull camping trailers with your aircooleds? Bigger balls than me. Those north Georgia hills can be quite nervy with a load.
