Project "Racelook"
So I thought I can better open an new thread for my bug. I'm restorating/building my 1303 S from 1974
I'm now more than 2,5 years bussy with this resto. This is how it stands now: http://www.keversite.nl/fotoalbum/fo...2005192342.jpg At this point the follow things are done: Chassis: -Every rust is out. Several pieces of framehead, napoleonhead self made, 2 new floorpans welded in. Two 12mm fuellines installed (what an work was that, but there in). I'm now at the point where I'm bending my 6mm RVS brakelines. (after that the chassis has to be maked clean to bare metal and will be sprayed with paint) Body: -Every rust is out (after many, many hours of welding).. maybe there's some little spots left, but they will be welded when I make the body clean to bare metal. -Race-fuelfiller from Sparco is in. (also lots of work with the home made holder for it) -After 2 pair of verry crap doors, finally got 2 good doors. Both of the doors are smoothed, so there are no doorhandles anymore. (will be opend eletric) -The enginelid is changed for an lid of an 1300 (without vents in it). I've started with making an metal scoop on it (almost 3 months ago, but has not finished it). -The Remmele side-airscoops are "in", everything is prepped for the installation, they only have to be glued in. -An aluminium is also from the beginning of this project in my property. CAD/CAM drawings for new wing"foots" are ready and waiting to be machined (laser cut). -An full rollcage is made by our self, more details can be found in this topic: http://www.germanlook.com/Forums/sho...light=rollcage -Hole the body is cleaned from inside and outside. Every hook is smoothed, every not functional hole is close. -Eberspacher heatchanger lays ready -Kamei-spoiler lays ready -Engine and gearbox will be for this time only been cleaned and painted. -Stripping the paint and all the body work has to be done. I will update this topic as fast as I can. Greetings Wiebrand |
Sweet project Weibrand. Looks like it's coming along. Mine has taken almost 5 years. Good to know I'm not the only one who took the long way round! :D

So my first update:
This are honestly just pics of about two weeks ago (when I had some time). I've been busy (so I said in above answer) with putting in two fuellines of 12mm (where originally sits 1 of 6mm) in. It was verry verry ****ty work, but hell yeah someone got to do it. At first an pic on which the holes on the backside are good to see. Also are the tules en the cut out piece verry good to see to get the lines in. http://www.keversite.nl/fotoalbum/fo...2005232456.jpg An detailpic. http://www.keversite.nl/fotoalbum/fo...2005232611.jpg To really get fuel from the front to the back they have to have an exit on the front. http://www.keversite.nl/fotoalbum/fo...2005232701.jpg After thtat both sides where welded close. -Backside http://www.keversite.nl/fotoalbum/fo...2005232741.jpg -Frontside http://www.keversite.nl/fotoalbum/fo...2005232836.jpg After a lot of "playing" with the Dremel I get this ending result. -Backside http://www.keversite.nl/fotoalbum/fo...2005232916.jpg -Front http://www.keversite.nl/fotoalbum/fo...2005232947.jpg I think it looks verry nice, just like off fabrique Wiebrand |
Looking good Wiebrand !
I think I might have to get the body off the frame too next year. What's with the 2CV (Eend), are you fixing that one up too ? Rob. |

So, the breaklines are finally in. It did go quite good, exactly the long tube was verry tiedy to bend by the HRC.

So guys it's time for an new update.
At first some clear pics of the install of the brakelines. Back http://www.keversite.nl/fotoalbum/fo...2005224114.jpg http://www.keversite.nl/fotoalbum/fo...2005224159.jpg Front http://www.keversite.nl/fotoalbum/fo...2005224301.jpg Some steel and silence blocks for the transmission mid mount I'm gonna make. http://www.keversite.nl/fotoalbum/fo...2005224420.jpg Steel and other stuff collected to make my own Cup-strebe. http://www.keversite.nl/fotoalbum/fo...2005224534.jpg |
The packet that came from Topline.
http://www.keversite.nl/fotoalbum/fo...2005224642.jpg This was in; http://www.keversite.nl/fotoalbum/fo...2005224932.jpg Everything out packet gives this; http://www.keversite.nl/fotoalbum/fo...2005225011.jpg Polyurethaan for al moving stuff for my chassis. And today also begin with the making of the transmissionmount for the Cup-strebe. http://www.keversite.nl/fotoalbum/fo...2005225131.jpg http://www.keversite.nl/fotoalbum/fo...2005225308.jpg I've welded two more pieces of steel in (in comparision with mount from other "factory's") for extra strength at the points were the tubes of the Cup-strebe will contact. Looks nice huh? Greetings Wiebrand |
So yesterday finally had some time to work on my car.
At first I maked some changes at the gearboxbracket. http://www.keversite.nl/fotoalbum/fo...2005220539.jpg Another shot. http://www.keversite.nl/fotoalbum/fo...2005220652.jpg I attached the stronger noserubber to the gearbox and mounted it to the chassis. http://www.keversite.nl/fotoalbum/fo...2005220947.jpg First tube of the Cup-strebe is ready (still 4 to go). http://www.keversite.nl/fotoalbum/fo...2005221222.jpg A view from above http://www.keversite.nl/fotoalbum/fo...2005221443.jpg Front http://www.keversite.nl/fotoalbum/fo...2005221540.jpg That's it for now. Greetings Wiebrand |

what are these rubber mounts from? I need a pair of these to make a front mount for my 915-1303 installation. |
Hi Trevor,
They're originally silence blocks, the are used to mount an motor on an platform or in a truck. The ones that are used for the original mid-mounts have an diameter of 50 mm and an height of 45mm. Maybe for you, because you don't want to use an noserubber (if i understand right), you better could machine some urethane bushings with that length and diameter. Greetings Wiebrand |
YES YES, finally the Cup-strebe completely ready!!! Whieeeeeeeeeeh :D
Friday I also picked up some steal for the bracket so I can make the hydraulic handbrake. Picked up some fittings for my HRC (for the hydraulic handbrake). The old bracket for the original handbrake removed. And also an drwaing given to somebody for making some pieces for the hydraulic handbrake. On saterday also given an drawing to somebody for making my brackets for my highwinhg. |
And on sunday it was Budel 2005.. what an great show and what was it hot.. Burned to the skin YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH :D
Final result of the Cup-strebe. http://www.keversite.nl/fotoalbum/fo...2005011326.jpg http://www.keversite.nl/fotoalbum/fo...2005011402.jpg And an quick pic of the removal form the original handbrakebracket. http://www.keversite.nl/fotoalbum/fo...2005011531.jpg Wiebrand |
nice work there, but why did you remove the handbrake bracket?
|
Nice brace :agree:

|
That's fantastic Wiebrand!
some really well thought out ideas there keep up the great wotk and keep us all informed! Al B |
Very nice work, butI have a question about the fuel line. What wall thickness tubing did you use?
|
1 mm..
The tubes are 12*1mm Wiebrand |
Tuesday I got an ring of my metalworker that 2 pieces for the hydraulic handbrake were already ready. So I picked them up and here are some pictures.
http://www.keversite.nl/fotoalbum/fo...2005194115.jpg http://www.keversite.nl/fotoalbum/fo...2005194140.jpg http://www.keversite.nl/fotoalbum/fo...2005194201.jpg Everything is in raw measurments and will be made on the right size when needed. Wiebrand |
hey racelook, what kind of ends are those on your brace? curious, because my dad and i have been trying to build a brace similar to yours only we were going to use balljoints.. and those aren't cheap so i was curious as to what kinda ends those were.
|
In dutch the are named as; gaffel M10
There only available in right tread, so left tread has to be machined in them. Wiebrand.. the are alsmost 7 euro each (in Holland) |
There's another update.
Today I brought the camera with me so I could make some pics of the little progress I maked the last 2 days (I'm now closing an verry verry bussy period with school, so my spare time finally can be used for my bug) Sorry for the green pics but this is our "Turtle-camera" (after an fall). Yesterday I had welded some metal plates (hooks) for the front controlarmsbrackets that will give some mores strenght. Tomorrow there also be welded some of that plates on the top of that brackets. http://www.keversite.nl/fotoalbum/fo...2005233626.jpg Today I was looking for an aluminium "crash-plate" for the underside of my chassishead (so something of the car stays complete when I hit an traffic-humb). But this costed 3 euro/kilo at the "old stealman" so I have to find antoher solution for that. Yesterday evening the gearbox was stoomcleand. This is the result. http://www.keversite.nl/fotoalbum/fo...2005233701.jpg Yesterday also welded the hydraulic handbrake-bracket together. And luckily everything works also  (everything except the HRC is handmade). Also an wooden mold made for the handbrake-lever. For this handbrake several things were made tonight and will be completed in the next couple of days. The handbrake is for 60% ready. http://www.keversite.nl/fotoalbum/fo...2005233821.jpg Today I only maked some plates for the front control arms. SO it was not an quite productive day, but I soon have more spare-time. Wiebrand |
So this morning (before I had my diploma-delivitration) welded some more metal plates to the front controlarm-brackets.
http://www.keversite.nl/fotoalbum/fo...2005173801.jpg Some more pics. http://www.keversite.nl/fotoalbum/fo...2005173822.jpg http://www.keversite.nl/fotoalbum/fo...2005173841.jpg Also had an little bit done to the midmount http://www.keversite.nl/fotoalbum/fo...2005173916.jpg Greetings Wiebrand |
So here some updates where I didn't had time for in the last week
On sunday one week ago, I resumed making my own mid mount. I almost spent an half day at it, but hell yeah it saves some (hard needed) money. But everything looks damn sexy!! B-Tuning Productions all the way  http://www.keversite.nl/fotoalbum/fo...2005000653.jpg Detailpic http://www.keversite.nl/fotoalbum/fo...2005000724.jpg Picture of the mid mount http://www.keversite.nl/fotoalbum/fo...2005000759.jpg I also welded the front brackets off, so everything is verry studdy. On the monday I most of the time drived around to get stuff. I also welded some pieces of my handbrake-bracket. Welded some nuts in the chassistunnel so I can bolt the handbrakebracket on my tunnel. On Wednesday i work hole the day on my car. I also today got my front trailingsarm back were the bushings were pushed out. http://www.keversite.nl/fotoalbum/fo...2005000843.jpg |
Wednesday one week ago i welded several unused holes close in the chassistunnel, so it stays one clean thing. Also is the hole for the original handbrakecables enlarged so I still can use them on my hydraulic handbrake.
An little bit unclear picture, maja http://www.keversite.nl/fotoalbum/fo...2005001037.jpg Handbrake-bracket is on. http://www.keversite.nl/fotoalbum/fo...2005001132.jpg Two holes in the bracket so the handbrake-cables still can be used. http://www.keversite.nl/fotoalbum/fo...2005001202.jpg Last one http://www.keversite.nl/fotoalbum/fo...2005001227.jpg I also maked an big "cage" so could sandbalst my car one day later (thursday). Grt Wiebrand |
On thursday one week ago (I know I'm verry bussy with my car so I couldn't update earlier ( my car is going to an show this saturday 23 of July, thats why).
Sandblasting works SUPER!!.. one side of my chassis tooked me 45 minutes. You cant keep that up with your grinder. I used an 10m3/min aircompressor, Man that thing blows some air out. On that day the hole chassis was blasted and several pieces of the body we blasted. |
On last friday I also have blasted some pieces of the body. ANd looked everything over if I had done every piece as good as it could. Worked till half past eleven that evening.
This are some pictures of thursday (one week ago) Af first our self maded blasting"cage". http://www.keversite.nl/fotoalbum/fo...2005001546.jpg http://www.keversite.nl/fotoalbum/fo...2005004759.jpg Chassis and body stands in the blastingcage http://www.keversite.nl/fotoalbum/fo...2005001653.jpg |
On this picture the sandblaster, airfilter for the helme, the helmet and gloves good to see. We hired this one, it was an brand new one (lucky 8) )
http://www.keversite.nl/fotoalbum/fo...2005001745.jpg This is how it looks after +/- 15 min of blasting, you can't keep it up with your grinder. http://www.keversite.nl/fotoalbum/fo...2005001859.jpg |
.... NAKED TO THE BARE METAL... Just what I love :D
http://www.keversite.nl/fotoalbum/fo...2005001941.jpg The "small" compressor we use (almost as wide and high as our bus) is an 10m3/min compressor. http://www.keversite.nl/fotoalbum/fo...2005002026.jpg Chassis is blasted on the backside the front is half way. The weelarches are also blasted as test. http://www.keversite.nl/fotoalbum/fo...2005002121.jpg |
Enginecompartment is blasted. The rust that you can see is after this pic also blasted away.
http://www.keversite.nl/fotoalbum/fo...2005002215.jpg Wielarches, enginecompartment, raingutter, windowgutters and "kokerbalken" were blasted http://www.keversite.nl/fotoalbum/fo...2005002258.jpg Chassis in the epoxy primer http://www.keversite.nl/fotoalbum/fo...2005002330.jpg http://www.keversite.nl/fotoalbum/fo...2005002401.jpg p.s. the underside was then not yet painted Grt Wiebrand |
wow, you're a very bussy bee . Good job I must say :agree:
|
This is an post from last monday evening when I came home from my bug:
At first I'm tired of al that blasting that I've done the last days. But yeah A couple of pics of past sunday (sunday one week ago); So looks an clear chassis (blasted). http://www.keversite.nl/fotoalbum/fo...2005005207.jpg And now the pics of last monday; The past days the body is blasted, see some pics downwards. Ever seen so clear body? Underside of the tiretrunk (is that is the english word for it). http://www.keversite.nl/fotoalbum/fo...2005005455.jpg Strut"holders" http://www.keversite.nl/fotoalbum/fo...2005005539.jpg |
Enginecompartment is blasted
http://www.keversite.nl/fotoalbum/fo...2005005625.jpg Blasted body hangs in the construction so it can turn overhead. http://www.keversite.nl/fotoalbum/fo...2005005654.jpg The hired compressor ABIRD (Industrial Rental Service) http://www.keversite.nl/fotoalbum/fo...2005005751.jpg (Stays an big thing) Body blasted; http://www.keversite.nl/fotoalbum/fo...2005005851.jpg http://www.keversite.nl/fotoalbum/fo...2005005914.jpg http://www.keversite.nl/fotoalbum/fo...2005005935.jpg |
