If I wasn't done with Trends last month, I am now

So I open my Trends the other day, flip a few pages, and land on a full page ad for natural male enhancement. WTF!?? This is supposed to be a car magazine, right? Can't even let my boy look at the magazine anymore.

I was gonna just let my subscription run out, but screw this now, I'm calling and getting it stopped, they can send me a check.

NO_H2O July 25th 2004 17:50

Yep, their on a roll.(down-hill fast)

TitoRay July 25th 2004 18:48

I almost thought it was a joke. Sad... :(

Shadowbug July 25th 2004 18:53

I don't even bother buying it anymore, they were a top notch magazine only a few years ago, now theres nothing worth reading in there, so I pick it up off the news stand flip through it to see if they've goth there act together, then put it back cause it still sucks.

and if anyone figures we need to support the magazine so they can afford to get their act together, I say stick it, its a commercial product, if it sucks it deserves to dissapear and make room for another that can do the job right.

NO_H2O July 25th 2004 19:03

They had a change in editors a couple years back. I think that is what is killing them. No more cutting edge stuff that kept me buying it before. That coupled with what they did with our area's Dyno Day coverage did it for me. My last issue came 3 months ago. I will wait to see if they wake up before I buy one again.

Supa Ninja July 25th 2004 20:03

My last issue came 2 and half years ago and I've only bought one since and that was the one that featured six GLers. I don't like wasting my money on crap.

Richie July 26th 2004 03:08

Hello,

Let my subscription run out 2 years ago. Haven't missed it yet! Well maybe the features about Jake  :bawling:

Cheers,
Richard

Mikey 1972GL July 26th 2004 03:08

I believe the ad is so very stupid. I almost fell on the floor laughing. :o I don't like the fact that it's in Trends at all, but it's just soo funny.

I'm sure it wasn't put in there as a joke. I wouldn't want my kid reading that. honestly, This isn't playboy.

I'm not sure if I'll renew my subscription, or save the money for a project.

vujade July 26th 2004 09:44

I understand why you guys are upset with Trends. It has sucked bad the last few years, but I dont understand why you would get upset over male enhancement ads. They show these on TV every day during the daytime, not just late at night. They are not just in Playboy. If you dont let you kids read the mag, then your probably gonna have to not let them watch TV either.

Not really trying to stir the pot, just wondering why these would upset you?

Supa Ninja July 26th 2004 20:47

I miss the good ole days when there were half naked chicks in the popular US Vee Dub mags, now it's male enhancements crap, I get enough spam emails about that stuff. I myself am not offended about it, but the magazine is not worth the 17 bucks a year or whatever the subscription is now.

(((((DITTO)))))
I havn't seen the lastest Trends but I here that CB Performance pulled there adds from Trends. Maybe the grow your dugan adds are there to make up for that.

boygenius July 26th 2004 22:19

Car enhancement and male enhancement all in the same magazine... I'll take ten...

Umm, how about NO....

Kafer_Mike July 27th 2004 13:22

Personally, I consider some of the cars featured to be a natural male enhancements. :D The articles and commentary, on the other hand, usually have the opposite effect...

NO_H2O July 27th 2004 14:13

I saw the Sept. Trends on the stand a Publix today. Just as I was told, CB Performance has pulled their advertising dollars from VW Trends. They ran a 2 page add for years. That had to hurt. They need to do something to get their circulation back up and advertisers back or they will not be around long.

boygenius July 27th 2004 19:28

Maybe some of the European magazines will see an opportunity to expand their subscribers and start selling more mags here. :agree:

the european VW mags are just as easy to find around here as the US ones, which is fine by me, cause the euro ones are 10x better thanVW trends and only slightly better than HOT VW's, not to thrilled about the adds in them for german porn sites though.

I was hoping for the price to drop if they sell enough of them in the U.S.A. :)

Last time I saw a European VW mag is was like $8 to $10...

Shadowbug July 27th 2004 22:42

VW SCENE isnt too pricey, some of the others are a little expensive though. but they're twice as thick as the us ones.

Good point... :)

zen August 1st 2004 11:14

just got back from vacation to my first issue of Hot VW's in quite a few years. looks like my VWT sub ran out just in time to miss the ad. :bawling:

the magazine business is a very tough business. i have debating for a while of about launching a new mag, but alot of work for little money. look at how many fail. VWT may be another if they don't amke some management changes.

Eric Happy Meal August 2nd 2004 14:57

i never subscribed to trends or hvw's, i usually just look through them and see if theres something i like and then i buy it. and in england its ALL about their smut, its just everywhere over there. and are the air cooled vw mags over there good? ive gotten one or two water cooled ones and they were just horrible, they were talking about corrados that were supposed to be the best of the bunch they had over there........they had exhuast, chip, and pulleys....

Supa Ninja August 2nd 2004 19:05

I personally like VolksWorld but the last time I checked it was 80 bucks for a years subscription. I don't like it that much. The place where I used to get my VW Scene quit carring it so I'm stuck with nothing again, or else I got to search a little harder.

NYBugman1972 August 5th 2004 11:08

I've switched over to Ultra VW from Hot VWs and VW Trends. I think it was for the better. How many times can I open up a magazine and see the same car over and over again? Ultra VW has something different and interesting, and they also feature New Beetles and air-cooled 4-cyl Porsche for a little more variety.

I recommend picking it up and having a look.

Supa Ninja August 6th 2004 00:04

Damn they got 914's in there too, I might just have to check it out when i see one

SuperRSi August 20th 2004 01:51

Man I have been using that stuff in VW Trends for a couple months and now my shoes do not fit. Is this what the TV ads say "Bob walks with a new swager" means? Have to walk, feet too big now to run.

Well, it was only a matter of time before those ads start appearing in car mags. Sadly enough TV and Magazines seem to take any money without shame. I am tired of Male Enhancement, flavored light days with wings, scented things on strings, and ex-models with hemoroids. Oh well, times have changed.

Okay, before the mag goes in the dumper this month, I look at the editorial. Looks like we're not the only ones fussing about the NME ad. And what it Ryans take on it? He says oh, we should just laugh about it. What a dork.

vujade October 7th 2004 13:55

John

He's trying to make light of it.
really its no big deal.
Just look at the Euro mags, they even have phone sex ads...
I dont see the big deal.
If They need to raise more money to make the mag better, then Im all for it.
I would love to see one of the US mags step up to the plate and make their mag as good as one of the Euro mags, and if it takes ads like that, then do whatever it takes to get the job done.

SuperRSi October 7th 2004 15:23

To escape having your kids see those ads in magazines and TV would require some serious sequestration from the real world. The questions will come as they get older, one way or the other. We cannot hope to keep our children as naive as we were once. Might as well get ready to answer the questions with honesty and in this case a dose of humor...

And back to my problem with my new big feet...

Thanks,

Randy

been thinking for quite a while that I could publish a magasine on par or better than many out there. Maybe its time to try.

hmm maybe thats an idea, theres lots of cool cars out on the net that have never made it into the mags, and really should.

anyone think this is a decent idea? I'd put it together from online submissions, and I could have it published and mailed out to whoever would be interested. might be a little thin without all the ads and such.

gimme some feedback on the idea, I've done some publishing so its not an amature job that'll be done, if enough people are into the idea, I'll open a website/forum for submissions and such.

zen October 12th 2004 17:08

i know of plans going on for an upcoming one (and no, i am not the one...no more extra time left). not sure of full format and such yet, but i know a GL guy with some influence (and this time, i am the one :)) on the president of the mag.

i agree there are many cars out there worthy and just don't get the chance. it is not like the photographers just comb the country though. it is mostly who you know and convenience of being at the same place at the same time. at least for us east coast guys. west coast is a whole nother story.

Rob October 13th 2004 08:59

I'd like to see a mag where they also show the average joe's Car.
Not just the top-dollar showcars, but decent cars with the ghetto mods that most of us can afford.

I'm not saying that there should be *no* coverage of the showcars, but it should be mixed.

Rob.
