Oasis's car in the DTM shop for an upgrade
 

Dennis drove her down from MD to get a 2056/RAT B Transaxle and some gauges, etc. And we jumped right on it. Type 1 is out. old apron is off, new Euro style FI apron is welded in and she is ready to go to the paint shop to have it and the front spoiler painted so we can get bake to the conversion. It should make it debut at Taccoa.

It took longer to drive me to the Amtrak station than to do this. ;)

(I found out why Atlanta, home to a monstrous airport, has such a rinky-dink train station. Only two passenger trains pass through each day. One goes New Orleans to New York; the other New York to New Orleans. The rest of the track traffic is CSX freight. Also, within 45 minutes after you dropped me off, it was packed like a sardine can with everyone yelling at each other in something sort of resembling English.)

I did get Kevin's wife to take a shot of the car with the apron removed. I hope Bobby can get it in to shoot the apron and spoiler by Thurs so we can get with it this weekend.

Usually a show gets me excited because I can't wait to see the other cars. This time I can't wait to see mine. :p

Good to hear that oasis is finally getting his "type 4 fix"..

It's looking like Toccoa is going to be Type 4 heaven... Maybe even Herbie extreme will be making an appearance there, in front of the RAT booth..

No, he's trying to have it ready before the Euro Auto Fest show in South Carolina in October. NO WAY it will be finished up for Toccoa :bawling:

Glad to hear that your project is moving forward I am looking forward to seeing all of the GL cars at Toccoa....

Thanks! Things are closer to within budget monetarily even if the timetable has been stepped up a bit -- which isn't all bad. I'll be out of the stock and into new that much sooner.

One week down, two weeks to go 'til I'm Amtrakin' to my DTM'd Type 4. :cool:

very cool. i am thrilled for you. you are going to love it. glad you are making it to Taccoa as well. i have to get on my car today and take care of a gasket leak at my alt stand from the swap we did last year AT the Taccoa show. it just started spewing a few weeks ago.

Yeah, I have a 60' wide spot reserved on the opposite end of the field yhis year, I want to herd all the TIV powered cars in that spot along with the Pinz and Brent's Ghia..

I wanted to take beth's car to show it under construction so people could see the detail under the car, but she said no!

We picked the car up from Bobby's and the apron/spoiler are body color now. time to clean and coat the bay and stuff the big block in.

Reading these updates make me reflex into a "someday, that'll be my car" frame of mind for an instant ... then, I remember it is my car. Very weird.

Give it a few months and you will be thinking the same way again. It does not take long to get used to the power and then you will want MORE!!

Beth's car is about as perfect as one can get but I believe she too will want more power.

Whats the reason for the bedliner in the engine bay?
More durable surface?

Looks good, kills sound, won't come off the firewall and suck against the fan and kill the engine, easy to clean, durable, etc, etc.

Where did Oasis end up getting the rear apron from? I never heard or i missed it.

I bought it from a guy in Florida off of the Samba. There is a place that carries them stateside, but were out of stock when I checked six or so weeks ago. There are two sources overseas from America -- one being in Japan. I can dig up the details if necessary.

The guy in Florida had more than one I think, so a search on the Samba may be profitable if in a hurry.

Those panels are great.
Everything is in and we have driven it a good bit today. I will drive it to Atlanta and pick Oasis up in the morning. He is on a train heading down here now.

You wouldn't want to give me the dimensions/ location of the panel? I have a 61' that I want to make the access holes in, but I don't have a complete engine to put in there to see where the carbs, spark plugs, etc. line up. :(

I used a 8x8 inch panel and bent it a 15 deg. down the center, then took the upper/aft. corner off. Lay it in the fender well and trace it out. Lay out your cut lines 3/4 inch inside the tracing and cut it out on the inner line. Drill the fastener holes tru both the panels and the fender wall and mount the nutplates.:agree:

I picked Oasis up at the Amtrack station in Atlanta in his car. Just to make an arrival, i hammered it from the traffic light just south of the station so he would know I was comming. He was right out front and had a huge grin on his face when I pulled up. That grin didn't leave his face for the remainder of the weekend. We shook it down some and he went to work buffung and waxing the car for it's debut at the Taccoa Bug Fair were it parked in Jake Raby's area. He got a nice Super 40 trophy for his efforts then headed off for home. I talked to him a little while ago by phone and the car is performing great and the grin is still on his face.

Oasis is one happy dude! One hell of a nice guy that is certainly deserving his new baby, he waited long enough!

I was glad to have it in my corral with the 6 other Type IV powered beasts and two more that'll soon be getting TIV power!
