996 front brake calipers...

I just recieved my front brake calipers in today and noticed that there is a sensor or something like that attached to the brake pads....I would like to keep the pads that are on there now bacause they're almost brand new! i there a way I could either get rid of these sensors or is there a parts I can order allowing me to put the sensors to use?

Could that be a temp sensor for disabling traction control? I know some cars have it but i'm not sure of the sensors typical location.

I think it may be just a wear indicator, perhaps when the pads wear down and make contact it lets the computer know that pads are shot?

John, I have got 2004 996 Turbo calipers and the front brakes has got the sensor you mention, it is as a few people think a wear indicator.

I will be using it as soon as I get them fitted....... eventually :(

Thaks man...so are you using the sensor or ??? if you are using the sensor where and what do I need? I'd like to keep the sensor if I can...that'd be sweet, a brake pad sensor in my car :D

The sensor just grounds a light on the dash. Tons of high end european cars have them.

Brake pad wear indicator was nothing to worry about you can remove it entirely with a medium flat screwdriver.

Like CC says it's just a ground, have an ignition live to your dash light and the earth to the sensor, when the pads wear down the sensor shorts out completing the circuit.
