Simple brake upgrade
Hi,
The current setup is stock Beetle front discs and late model drums in the rear. I want to make a small upgrade, but don`t think I need any large Porsche brakes. I have laying around a new set of Talbot front calipers - larger pistons Also - in the rear I`m either going to use Type 3 late model drums - larger brake bands and drums, or perhaps 914 disc brakes? Any other options? Is the 914 front brakes similar to the Beetle setup? ps: do anyone know what parts CSP are using for their rear-brake setup? The car is a 1970 1200, swing-axle. |
Ok, so I found out this.
Many uses the 914 discs, and machining down an old drum from the Beetle to work as a hub for it. The calipers are usually Golf, Passat etc, and some custom bracket made up. So the conclusion probably is that 914 is more difficult than 924; but how does these parts fit on a swing-axle? Same brake ratio? |
Found this articel while reading; given that the brakes on the 914 and Beetle are the same, then the same modification should be possible. Anyone got/can get specs for the BMW caliper vs the Talbot one?

Hi
I think the 914 front brakes use a wider calliper bolt spacing than the Beetle, In pretty sure its the same as a late Type 3. Steve |
