310mm front discs with early boxster calipers?
 

Is it possible to fit 310mm front discs with boxster calipers, that came with kerscher set? Far is i know, early boxsters did have 298x24 discs at front. Ok, maybe 298mm discs are enough. Rear i will have 944 turbo discs with 944t or boxster calipers.

I have been planning to replace kerscher vented discs with custom made aluminum hubs, wilwood aluminum rotor hats and wilwood curved or directional vane rotors.

Already have those hats with 8x7" pcd and designed aluminum hubs :)

Why do you want to get a 310mm disc instead of a 298/299mm dics?
Though it shouldn't be a problem, obviously you'd have to space the caliper a little further outwards radially.

the boxster calipers that come with the kerscher kit are boxster 2.7 rear calipers iirc suitable for a 20mm thick disc

I'v been studying and no, according to the numbers, kerscher brake kit has non-s boxster front calipers, which are originally used with 299x24 rotors.

Rears on early non-s boxster are 292x20, and use different caliper at the rear

Also found that watercooled audi/vw guys use this caliper up to 312mm discs from A8/TT. So 310mm rotors should not be a problem.

You will probably have to use at least 17" rims to clear the calipers on a 310/312mm disc.

i jst checked my emails from when i spoke to them and it is indeed a front caliper designed for the 24mm thick porsche disc but used on a 20 mm thick vented disc for a bug!

Yes i think that i may need 17" rims. I have a 15" 944 space saver alu for spare that fits with 944 Turbo rearbrakes what i have now at the back (299 rotors, 4-piston brembos).


I was hoping to use the space saver on the all around if needed in emergency. But probably it wont fit anymore with 310mm rotors and boxster calipers, but maybe with 20-40mm spacer?


Allthought Kerscher said that their brake kit with 278 rotors and boxster calipers its possible to use any 15" beetle wheel. With 310 rotors, caliper will be pushed out 16mm.

So, there is two choices, if spare wheel doesnt with: 1. 20-40mm wide spacer 2. Smaller rotor (300-304mm)

Here seems that with 312 rotor you can fit 16" wheel.

Does anyone have 16" porsche/audi rim that can measure area where caliper is? I'll check the space saver rim, it should be a littlebit slimmer from inside than regular 15" wheel.

I would be concerned that the space saver rim is up to the job of full time duty. It was speed limited IIRC, that maybe related to the variation of wheels and tyres when used but I doubt whether Porsche will sanction it for full duty all round.

The 312mm disc will fit within the largest diameter of a 16" wheel with 37mm clearance for the caliper - thats seems a bit tight for a Brembo unit. Normally, the caliper sits closer to the nave of the wheel that is further narrowed by the rim well (~ 15mm) I had this problem when fitting the 928S4 caliper to the standard 15" wheel. It was correctly set for 944 N/A disc but fouled the wheel. Shaving the caliper didn't work well enough so I had to add spacers that are currentlyt 31mm, that meant wide wings and an increase in the front track to compensate for the rear track width etc etc etc.......

Clive, i will use it only at emergency, thats for i bought it. Also planning to use regular (skinny) tire on that space saver rim.


Wheels for everyday use will be 17" cup wheels. I have 3cm wider front fenders and 6cm wider rears.

Another possibility is to buy 996 or boxster spare tire, it is probably 16" or 17"

For occasional use then it will be used as intended. We have 4 steel 944 space saver wheels with 165x15 tyres. All have stickers to limit the speed to 60mph (96kph) but I am convinced that looking at the substantial construction that that limitation was for when it was used in conjunction with the standard wide/low profile alloy wheels and tyres. I intend to use these wheels for autotesting where they will help where less traction can be beneficial.

I have thought to buy that bigger spacesaver sparetire, lots of them available.


With 3,5 x 17 rim, i should not worry with 310mm brakes at front. Tire is skinny 105/90 R17, alternative size is 125/80 R17 :lmao::lmao:

Should fit great to under balljoint beetle hood =)
