901 5 speed Tech article is online !

Thanks to Steve Arndt for this one !

Steve,

I think the links at the bottom of the article are out of date ?
Let me know what you want to do with them.

http://www.cal-look.com/tech/porsche.shtml
Use that for the callook link (they change it to avoid direct links all the time I think :p

Michael's page is still up, just at a different location. Anyone have the link?

Bonekar's page is off line for the moment, so it is dead.

My email is correct now, stevearndt@cableone.net (I have had like 4 ISPs since I wrote the article)

Very good. Whats 'Timesert' though?

Steve Arndt August 16th 2002 11:31

Timesert is like a "Heli-Coil" but better. It is used to re-thread something. You know what a "case saver" insert is in a T1 motor? That is a Timesert type device. They are threaded on the outside and inside and made of high quality steel. You tap the native material to an overize thread (which matches the outside of the timesert). The kit has a spot facing tool to have the insert set just below the surface. Then install the timesert, and you have have perfect inside threads of which ever size you selected. They are used to fix broken exhaust stud holes where the threads are damaged, etc.

Ah I see, I guessed it was something like that. I had just never heard that name before (just looked it up! http://www.timesert.com/) I was thinking of heli-coils, but they arn't exactly the same thing.. I have learn't somthing today.. :)

alas no dice...

Bad link, perhaps it is still referencing the old site URL.
however changing the URL to .net from the .com URL has no effect.

If someone has it locally and can get it to me I will post it on my server so we can 'perma-link' to it.

thanks.

I'll post all of the tech articles in the forums this weekend.

The 901 installation is an old article but good for reference. I would forget about bending a new shift rod and build one out of a length of pipe and 2 universal joints.

sandeep do you have images of this setup?
I have now heard a few references to building with UV joints but have not seen photos of one yet?
Thanks for any insights.
