what oil filter is the best
 

Right when i have finished running the engine in, and change the oil what filters are every one running, there is a lot of bad posts on stf about the fram hp1's, so i aint to sure what filter to run on the t4. any help would be good.

I'm drawing the conclusion that everyone on the STF doesn't like anything. I use the HP1 and no problems. All of my friends use the same filter. I'm not saying its the best but it works well.

I Like Mann or Mahle filters for near stock engines...or I like Wix filters for Hi Po applications..

I dyno tested Fram HP 1 filters and the results were terriable on one of my engines with a need for a high volume flow (Ie, rod mods from hell and open clearances)

Mann/Mahle or Purolator.
Like Raby says, Fram does not work that well on a T4. Not really sure why.

I for one, have never tried a Purolator on a T1. But in a full flow setup, I havent measured any big difference between the Mann & the HP1. Maybe when we hit 6,5K rpm & up there will be a difference. I never tried that.

However, (just came to mind) I did notice a rather high oil pressure on 1 engine at cold morning startups. (-5 degrees C.) But as soon as the oil got massaged a little bit it vent down to normal pressure. It took like 2 minutes or so. This was Pennzoil 15W/40 oil.
I´m not sure if it was viscosity or restriction in the oil system.

Ahnendorp (BAS) sells the Kolbenschmidt oil filters. I got the longer filter which is also used on diesel engines. This filter bolts right on and since its longer, has more oil volume in itself. Luckily all BAS headers clear the filter (of course). More oil in your engine is always a good thing, I suppose.

For the record Purolator makes a HP-1 as well. Can get them at PepBoys.

I like Purolator or Mann/Mahle (if going stock).

No KS units in the states so no idea what they are like :(

i dont think anyone has answered the question of what to use on a type 1 yet. i have a type 1 hi performance. i use HP-1 right now and yes my oil pressure is a little high in the mornings but give it a few minutes and it idles right at 35 until it fully warms up and idles and 10-15psi. so which one should i use that i can get here in the states. i heard kolbensmchidt mentioned but have never seen them in the states so what should i use? thanks. sam

I use K&N. I cut one in 1/2 once. They are definately sturdy. They are expensive, but most of us only change them twice a year. I think they run about $11.00.
