Hi guy's soon i will be switching over to type 4, hope i won't be disapointed. I finally took delivery of a type 4 case however i was wondering if this block was a 2.0l or 1.7, 1.8. The case number is 004.101.101A ( on the left side ) and 004.101.1002A above this number on both sides is a bunch of letters and numbers S1 12.

2.0 Bus Case from 76-77

The case should be fine to use, but I wouldnt use the 2.0 bus heads. They have the smallest valves and usually have seen the most wear.

Try to find some good 1.8 or 2.0 914 Heads.

This is great, i will most certainly enjoy building a massive t4. One more thing. What's the largest size crank you can put in the t4 before you start case clearancing? I would also like to know where in the U.S. can i buy a crankshaft which is balanced with flywheel, clutch and pressure plate.

I believe 74mm is the largest without clearancing.

Check out European Motorworks
They sell t4 stuff and also do machine work & engine building so I am sure they can balance it for you.

You might also want to check out Jake Raby
He sells complete engine kits for T4's and they are fully balanced.
