CB Rotohub REAR discs, anyone running these??

Just wondering what you guys thought of the quality of the kit. Also, what kind of calipers are these?? Are replacement parts easy to get, or are there a bunch of one-off things in the kit?? Ok, and one more...how was the install?? Thanks!!

Deathbug74 October 6th 2003 07:46

quality of the kit looked pretty damn good to me. i put these on my 74 about a month ago..didn't think to take pics during the install though. all in all it went pretty smoothly..had to bend new hard lines for the rear though. only problem i saw was that the pads don't come installed in the calipers, and there's no instructions included as to how to install the pads into the calipers. not firsthand knowledge, but according to the guy at one of the acvw shops in town, the calipers are 93 taurus calipers, and that the rotors themselves are a one-off.

Ditto on all that. Using them on the rear of my bus with the Porsche pattern.

Cool guys, thanks!

I remember a post about 8 months ago(shoptalk), saying something about the axel nut coming lose, and the only thing keeping it on was the pin. Let me know if you guys are having any problems with this. I think I remember one guy say he shaved off a few mm's of the axel nut, as to get more surface area, so the nut could grip better...i bet some lock-tite wouldnt hurt either!!

The axle nut coming loose was a break in problem for the first 500 miles if I remember correctly. Shad made the post if you want to do a search. As long as these brakes have been around I am suprized it hasn't come up more often.

I'm going to be checking my axle nuts this afternoon on my rotohubs (installed on irs t3). I'll snap some shots of the setup while i'm at it.

Take care,

I thought the CB Rotohub kits (with parking brakes) used calipers for mid-80's GM midsized cars like the Regal and Grand Prix...

CB Rotohub calipers are the same as Pontiac Fiero, Grand Prix, 6000ste, Bonneville, Buick Park Avenue, Electra, Regal Gran Sport, Reatta, Ford Taurus, Mercury Sable, and others, I'm sure.

<--That Bug's got 'em. They are strong enough to run 17"x9"s with 19mm spacers. I had to press in longer studs.

Just to keep things "simple" I bought 914 calipers(rear) and now finding out with CB if they still have brackets to hold these on the arm, so that i could use their roto-hub system.

Failry cheap, and much better tham drums...

Will let you guys kwno how it turns out

I bought some 914 rear calipers too! Looks like were in this together. Let me know what you find. Maybe we can buy the CB discs (914) and adapters, and re drill the adapters to fit the calipers. E-mail me with your findings. CB said the adapters wont fit the 914 calipers, so that's where I'm at. We need some kind of template with dimensions so we can fabricate the adapter from scratch.

Ephry73 November 19th 2003 13:40

I have also been exchanging emails with a guy that sales similar kits. He says he has the brackets for the 914 also.... With rotohubs as well.... Now I'm divided in whether to use the 914 rears and the Ghia's front calipers or just use all of the 944 parts, which will require a little more labour, plus the use of Porsche wheels... which equals more money,... so we'll see

Who has the 914 brackets? how much for 2?

Ephry73 November 19th 2003 15:01

I thought CB had them... still have to confirm. The guy I was going to get mine from said that these brackets are made for the t3 front calipers, so i will have to get them measured to see if the spacing works.... will keep you posted.
