Arms, Arms, Arms!!!

I finally got my narrowed IRS arms in today! Woo Hoo! Will be doing a little preliminary fitting this weekend and will post some pics. Lots of fabrication to do but finally moving forward!:D

DORIGTT December 24th 2003 22:01

Where'd you get them from?

Panelfantastic December 24th 2003 22:27

www.blindchickenracing.com
They are tubular chro-mo, narrowed 1.5" with a custom springplate mount moved in 2".

I'm assuming these are similar to the ones available at aircooled.net. or not? Is it possible to move the shock mount as well as the spring plate mount? well in my case it would be a coilover mount but i'm curious. also how much did you pay if you don't mind saying. thanks.

Hey can I get some pics too. I talked to the guys at blind chicken racing for tips on 2.3L turbo stuff. Really nice guys. Im wanting to sjee those narrowed arms too.

roo January 8th 2004 19:35

hey panalfantastic i already posted it under narrowed irs but wan't sure if you knew. i did the measuring and for an irs car narrowed 2" per side you can move the pivot (hiem) back 9/16 and it should have the same geometry as stock. hope this helps. and also i decided to opt for stock arms as i don't think i will be narrowing the track any just the spring plates. cheers

Panelfantastic January 8th 2004 20:05

Thanks Roo! Luckily, mine has bolt-on IRS pivots so I can set my ride height and dial in the perfect camber.

I just posted a bunch more pics on the samba under Jeff K. so you guys can see how things are shaping up...
This is my favorite,

well thats what i was getting at when you mount your hiem it should technically be moved back 9/16" from the center of the tube but i'm not totally convinced it won't work in the stock location. that thing looks killer by the way.

miller January 9th 2004 02:24

How much did they charge for those arms? Keep us posted on how it handles and whatnot.

Panelfantastic January 9th 2004 09:10

Aircooled.net has them for $425 I think. Should be in stock, ready to ship.

Roo, the key is making sure the two pivot points line up. I made a little jig that fits into the inner pivot and lines up the heim. I hope it works like I think it will.

Panelfantastic

Your narrowed arms and hole your bus looks verry cool and smooth.. :D

Keep up the good work man.

yeah the two pivots have to intersect. i measured the trailing arm pivot and it has a pitch of 9/32" rise per inch. so if you narrow 2 inches (2" * 9/32" = 9/16") so if find the center of the torsion tube mount the hiem 9/16" towards the rear of the car from that and they should intersect. cheers

DORIGTT January 9th 2004 20:01

Panelfantastic, roo, did I miss something? Are you guys referring to mounting the heim joint for the trailing arms offset so that binding doesn't occur?
