Another brake question
 

I found some porsches that are being parted it out, about an hour from where I live, and I was wondering what I could use.

What I know so far is 2 1969 911 trannys, and axles.

944 rear suspension, no brakes.

He also has some 911, 912, and 914's that are being parted out. Can brakes from any of these be used? I would like to find brakes for my car but am having trouble finding 944's. Can someone give me a hint as to what gauges, seats, etc work good for conversions.

I'd definitely grab the two trannies, leave the axles, grab the rear 944 suspension, and if the guy is parting out the 911's depending on year and model they use the same rotors/ calipers as 944's so that might solve your problems with the brakes. Some guys like to run the 911/912/944 seats, some guys like to run the 914 seats. The mid 80's steering wheels are very nice, maybe a early 911 shifter and linkage. If one of the 914's has a 2L grab that. You'll want to find 944 axles(half shafts) that match the 944 rear suspension. Where I live 944's are a dime a dozen, their popping up in pick and pull now. Can anyone tell me what years 911 will work on the brakes? The best I can figure, according to x-refrencing part numbers, 78+ 911 is the same as 83-86 944. Not sure when they stop being the same though.

Any help is appreciated. What about gauges? 911 or 944?

Either 911 or 944 gauges will work, I won't use the 911 tach though, 914 or 912 is setup for a four cylinder engine. Personally I like the early 944 set up the best. Try to get the plug and as much of the wiring as you can.

78-83 911 & 78-85 928

...the 928 also has the same calipers as the 944 but the 911 does not. However, these other models (besides the 944) had many different trim levels with slight differences in the rotor thickness and caliper design. It can get confusing.

So if he has a 78-83 911 I can use the brakes from it? Rotors, calipers, spindles, etc and do the conversion just like using the 83-86 944 parts? Will they be missing the speedometer cable hole? Could it be machined in?


Sorry for all of the questions. I guess the best thing to do would be to go there and find out what he has and then ask what will work..

The simular parts are the brakes only (discs/calipers) the spindles are different. Also, as said the 911 has different calipers.
