leaking type 4 exhaust at heads
got a TYPE 4 CJ 2.0 litre motor with OVAL ports and those copper sealing rings in the head ports. Just replaced them as at least one was leaking. Now I am NOT running heat exchangers but Eurorace J pipes from Stateside Tuning (UK).
Thing is, done all 4 gaskets and now it's blowing like a bugger ! I know their not stock OE heat exchangers, but blimey, they are a pig to seal. Any one have any ideas to help ? Stateside did reccommend using a bit of exhaust paste on the gaskets. ???? this is my first type 4 (normally a type 1 motor man) but this exhaust is trying my patience ! cheers, :bawling: Angelo:( |
I usually use some high temp silicone to hold the gaskets in place. It also will help to seal everything up. Make sure that the pipes are straight where they meet the heads, sometimes I have to install aftermarket exhausts on motorcycles and ther are not always high quality. A little hammering and tweeking and some silicone may be required. :(

I have heard Jake talk about useing a torch and mallet to make them fit and seal.

put the head pipe openings against a flat surface, like a wall picture frame, or a copier lense to see how far off the head pipes are in relation to each other.
Get an idea of where, and what you have to heat and bend. |
