Which One???

IF you had a choice to build a great handling and great riding GL Super...... would you pick a 73 or a 74???

(I'm in California, and I don't want anything newer than a 74 for SMOG reasons)

Thanks !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

74 with the steering fron a 75-up

A 73 would also work with the 75 and up rack and pinion steering...just make sure that it is the latter 73 with the 2 bolt struts, not the earlier struts like on a 71 - 72 super.

How come you can use a 75? It is 2005 now, so it it would be 30 years old this year...

i was also wondering if the rack and pinion setup would work...can it be swapped into a 74.
does the rack and pinion offer any advantages to lowering/handling
i have not seen the suspension layout for it..can you go lower with the rnp?..considering the pitman arm on the 74!

just noticed post in suspension section :whoops:

I believe the 71 or 71 suspensions can go the lowest.... not sure about the difference between 73-74 and the 75's with R&P...

They changed the smog law last year, no more rolling 30 year exemption.
We are stuck at '73 until the democrats roll it back to an even earlier year.... The law does not specify a year as I understand it and they can change it anytime they want to now. They really want us to stop driving our old cars!! I'll be moving out of this state as soon as I get my daughter through school.

1 of the 1001 reasons I don't live in Cali. Great place to visit

i could have sworn gov. swarzenegger stopped the smog exemption 30 year rule at 1976.

Rhino1XL January 7th 2005 19:28

YEAH.... I thought that the 30 year rule applied to 76 and newer as well!!

VWader04 January 9th 2005 01:27

Beginning April 1, 2005, the 30-year rolling exemption will be repealed. Instead, vehicles 1975 model-year and older will be exempt. Therefore, 1976 model-year and newer vehicles will continue to be subject to biennial inspection indefinitely.
