Sound deadening/insulation alternatives
I know about Dynamat, but it's a little pricey. What are my other alternatives?
I've looked at the silver insulation type stuff that Eastwood sells. I've thought of putting that over a liquid deadner. Might run into cost again. And aren't most liquid products just glorified undercoating? I'd read that somewhere. I'm most interested in killing the noise, insulation is just a bonus. Thoughts? |
Anybody used eDead?

I read the 4000 threads on STF by the way. I want to know what you guys have used effectively.

Just a suggestion but have alook in your local roofing shop. There is a type ot insulating underfelt that is physicaly so like dynamat but half the price. I have been wondering about gettin some to try myself. It is insulation after all! If your interested I can find out the name of it after the weekend.

Yeah, I've also looked into the stuff by McMaster-Carr or whatever their name is. I was kinda hoping for a liquid though. Seems it would be a lot easier to apply.

There was also a thread on the cal look forums the other day about using a spray on bed liner looked good and hard wearing, dont know what insulation properties that would have though.

i used the stuff No_H2O is pointing you to...EVERYWHERE. much, much quieter than my Ghia.

NO_H20,
The spray or the mat? I'm hoping to find a spray. I think it would be a lot easier to apply. |
we both used the mat. keep in mind the trade off of more weight for less sound. it was worth it for me, but i have power to spare. not sure what the weight difference and quality difference would be mat vs. spray.

They have a spray and a mat. The spray would work better in some areas and the mat will work better in others. I put 4.5 rolls of the mat http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showd...number=268-020 in my car and it is the quietest VW I have been in. the spray is here http://www.partsexpress.com/webpage....ectGroup_ID=19
All mat material here http://www.partsexpress.com/webpage....ectGroup_ID=37 |

Sorry, kinda forgot about this thread. I ended up going with the eDead V3. It's a paintable liquid. Not sprayable, more like a rubberized paint. 2 coats on the vertical surfaces and roof, and I'm prepping the rear package tray for 3, and then probably 2 on the floors. Works well as far as I can tell. I can hear a huge difference with the "ping" test. So I'll give an update once it's back on the road.
BTW- It's $68 (including shipping) for a gallon. That'll cover 100 sq.ft. Plenty to cover a bug. |
righton..
