bucket seats
i am in a bit of a dilema about what style of seat to fit in my car, i would like fia approved buckets as i intend to put it down the strip next year , most of the modern styles have extended shoulder pads with the result that they are at least 560mm wide and after a measure the bug is only 1120 wide ,anybody got any info on what make and model will fit in a modern style and how ?

I use an OMP Evo seat (old one, bought it used), on a crummy home-built bracket, and it fits no problem.

one think to consider
Fitting bucket seats in most cases makes you seat in a more upright position. This along with the proper seating position (ie knees and elbows bent) this will bring you closer to the steering wheel, that is forward. Now the question: at which point did you meaure the width? cos the beetles ive seen with bucket seats all of them have them positioned front of the b pillar, with the shoulders at the window area which is normal imo. example is a 1303 with two Sparco evo 2. close fit but works:P except if you are more than 1.85 in height I suppose your beetle will be a road going with some track/strp use. think about safety as well. you should be able to unlock the harness and get out in about 5-6 sec maximum (f1 cars/driver combo must be 5 sec - with removing the steering wheel) Thats all Chris |
cheers for the info, never thought of putting the seats infront of the pillars doh , think the evo 2 or cobra imola will be my choice both good seats and not crazy money :D

I used 2003 Celica GTS seats. Trimed off the Celica mounts, stripped the springs and foam off some bug donor seat bottoms and welded/painted them up.

I have 2001 honda prelude seats in mine. cut the stock brackets off the honda seats and created my own brackets, some modest welding to a stock VW seat bracket so that i have full use of laying down and sliding from front to back.
