The Bus get an upgrade

2 Attachment(s)
Well Joel's Bus did a fine job getting us to the Bug Jam weekend and back. It ran great for the first 4000 miles. But do to improper valve seat work it dropped the intake valve seat and began to run like $#!*. I pulled the engine and sent the heads to Headflow Masters for repair and upgrade. I got them back yesterday and got the engine ready to stuff today. Weather permiting it will go back together tomorrow.

Niiice! :agree:

I'm gonna be looking to Adrian to re-do those Bus heads for Sue's car. Nothing but valves, seats, and guides if needed. Her's will end up being a Cali-cooled 2.0, or 2056, Web 73, 40DRLAs, with 412 heater boxes.

That's third in line right now. Once mine's done, I've GOT to overhaul the Turnip's engine.

That is what he did to these. 42x36 and new seats/guides. About $210 per head plus shipping.

Weather sucked here yesterday. I will stuff it on my next set of day's off.

After checking for a change in the rocker geometry with the new valves. I found that I will have to re-do it and scap a set of Manton cryogenicly treated chromolly pushrods and cut another set after 4200 miles. :bawling:
Joel and I will haul the engine up to Jakes in the morning and "GIT-R-Done"

I hauled it up to Jake's and went through the Valvetrain geometry again. Cut another set of Manton Chromolly Cryo'ed pushrods (2mm longer). Then maid an adjustable pushrod from one of my old ones so I can do this at my place. I just need a precision pushrod cutter now. :agree:

The engine is back in and running strong. Still need to tidey up the bay. Should have it on the dyno in March. :agree:

>just need a precision pushrod cutter <

What exactly is the proper tool for this?

... I just paid Berg to cut my set of Mantons. Perhaps silly but they match and that goes a long way ;) FWIW Berg's are Mantons.

Good Luck Dave!

I'm looking to find a nice arrow shaft saw used.

We cut my pushrods using Dads lathe and the right cutting bit. Did a perfect job!

I was half way thinging a plumbing tube cutter, but felt it might crimp the inside... Then again copper is much softer than chromoly! :)

... I wish I had access to a lathe :(

This is what I would like to find or build.

I ordered the Unilite conversion kit for the mallory dizzy (has points right now but the dizzy is the same basic unit). It will be here on the 10th (cutting it close). I also bought a new O2 sensor to wire in, synthetic 20w50 and a K&N oil filter. :agree:
