Roll Cage Design
Well, I'm getting ready to build my first roll cage for my Turbo Euro Bug. And I would like your guys imput/tips on building this.
Here Is my car: http://img95.imageshack.us/img95/473...01small9md.jpg Here is My ideas so far: (masking tape represents 4130 tubing) http://img95.imageshack.us/img95/393...01small0bm.jpg http://img95.imageshack.us/img95/355...02small8ym.jpg http://img95.imageshack.us/img95/662...03small6er.jpg I have it going to the bottem of the wheelwell because I'm removing the torsion tubes and going to make a mount for a ladder bar for the differnt suspension i'm doing back there. |
When it comes to safety, your best bet is to look at professionally built cages and make sure yours has a similar design just to be sure it works in a rollover. I like this one
http://www.cachassisworks.com/ click on e store and chassisworks. Keep us informed and post lots of pictures. Are you welding it yourself? Mike |
Yes, I will be TIG welding with My TIG. My coworker is letting me use is hydrolic tubing bender. I will be picking up the tubing sometime next week. I'm just trying to finalize the setup before I go ahead with the building.

Now I'm out there removing the seam sealer and I'm going to then seam weld everything before I have the cage in my way.
|
Are you going to weld or bolt it to the tunnel? Will the body still be able to be removed from the frame without cutting the cage?

Now that's a slick idea, using tape to get a rough idea of the location of the cage. Looks good. My only suggestion is to use some kind of tubing notcher. Fit-up can be just as important as the welds.
Nice looking car. :righton: PS. I go to school for welding. :o |
That tape looks pretty strong all by itself I'd say. If you just use duct tape, with all that triangulation I think it will work great! JK, you're off to a great start, keep us posted.

Also I have ditched the 4130 Chromoly tubing for some standard DOM tubing for construction reasons. |
