6-speed Turbo

Has anyone installed a 6 speed twin turbo engine into a beetle? Herr Bader has the 6-speed and a naturally aspirated 993 engine, but I have been lusting after a 53 split window with a 996 twin turbo engine and transmission. I have read that the 6-speed will take significant cutting of the pan, but what about the engine? Will it be able to fit under the decklid, or would it stick well out the back through the apron?

Without serious re-working the engine wouldn't fit under the external sheet metal, the closest I have seen used a 911 pan with split body modified and welded on top.
Also, the watercooled engines used a different bolt pattern to air-cooled so you would have to use a 996 trans too (or adapter plate, but that would push engine back), don't think that has been done before in a bug..

I sent a couple of messages to Herr Bader, and it sounds like the 993 twin turbo will fit under a Ghia, if you relocate the intercooler. He said his only problems were with heat from the exhaust burning the paint. Does this also mean that a 993 TT engine would fit under a beetle deck lid? I have a '73 Ghia, and the engine bay looks pretty spacious, unfortunately I don't have a bug (I know, weird), so I can't tell how different the engine bay is.

Ghia has a LOT more space than any bug...
