Fender bead
 

Do you guys take this off typically or leave it on? I think it looks kinda tacky on my stock 73 super and was wondering if it would hurt anything to take it off, when I send it off to paint.

The bead serves as a gasket between the main body and the fenders.
IMO if you remove the bead and the fenders and body are allowed to rub against each other the end result could be rust. I know you may think it sounds crazy, but if you end up with a loose fender bolt the fender and body will grind together right thru the paint. Besides, I like the way it looks. I don't care for the bead when folks paint over it though.

Maybe that's why I dont care for mine, it has been painted over and is is cracked all over it.

Yeah... I forget the name of the company but I think you can still get beading that is close to the color of your car. I remember a local guy that painted his car Porsche Guards Red and was able to get the bead in red and it damn near matched perfect. Just an alternative....
