Torsion Bar Recommendation Needed

I would like to get some input on what size torsion bars I should go to. Currently my suspension is way too soft in the rear. The car is a bit too low currently and bottoms (and tops) out pretty easy. I would like to stiffen this up quite a bit without going radical.

Here is what I am currently running that impacts the decision to some extent:
'73 standard bug
Koni Reds
Late 944 ali arms
944 spring plates
17x8.5 Boxster rims
24 extra lbs. of a TIV
CSP Cup Brace

If I remember correctly, stock bars are 24mm. Do I go 26, 27, 28 or what? Any confirmation on length and splines is helpful too so I can order them before pulling mine apart. Anyone with the parts I need willing to give a GermanLook.com owner discount is always appreciated.

Hi

Are you running stock bug or 944 bars? Bugs have 22mm and the basic 944s use 23.5, sames as a type 3. I found the 23.5 bars worked very nice in my old 1302 but I could have gone a little harder.

Zen, my bars came from '87 944 (got the whole housing, and parts attached to it) if my memory is right, my 944's are 25.5 mm, and the bug's were 22 mm. I set them next to my old type I bars, and the 944's are the "heavy duty booty  " compared to the type I jobs they are the same spline and length. I can jump up and down on the back of my bug, and it's way stiffer than the old ones. It just so happens I know where some are sitting in a large metal basket(you know the place). I might be going there soon for another reason.

Lenght and number of splines

Hi again
I found that the lenght should be 676mm.
Inner splines 40 and gives a change of 9 degrees
Outer splinses 44 and gives a change of 8º 10,5’.

Zen, I'm running the 944 25.5mm torsion bars which were a good mix of track and street. It's on the tight side for street use but if you autox, hit track days, or frequently drive winding roads the setup is perfect. It never had any problem with my type 4 hanging off the back. :D

My old track/street setup

I had the same question so I made a shot in the dark. I just put Sway-A-Way 28mm's on thinking they would be super stiff. (aircooled.net) I autocross so I was willing to sacrifice some comfort. No comfort lost. The car now feels solid & firm, no harshness at all. Red Koni's too, on second setting. Magic Carpet. I'm kicking it at the autocross now too. Just what the doktor ordered.
