???s on Type1 DTM fit
I finally installed my 2332 w/ Type 1 DTM into my ’69 Beetle last weekend (though not running yet). I'm concerned that the top section of the cover over the Type IV oil cooler is tight up against the firewall. Is this normal???
My firewall doesn’t have the factory tar board. I removed it prior to sending the car to paint. I have installed a single layer of DynaMat-type sound deadner and a carbon fiber sheet to the firewall, but the overall thickness of both is less than 1/8”. I’ve checked the shroud placement on the engine (front to back) and it is correct for proper alignment of the fan and alternator pulley with the crank pulley. My fear is that I'll crack the shroud the first time I crack the throttle... :( |
perhaps the whole engine and box has moved forward a tiny bit? if not this could help shifting it a tiny bit will make the clearance anyway. just a thought

The engine/transaxle have new factory mounts, so they have not moved. The body was set squarely on the pan, front to back and side to side. All the body holes lined up perfect. The last thing I want to do is unbolt the entire body and move it forward...

I wouldn't worry about it. I just installed my 1915 with DTM and I have nothing on my firewall; it is one tight fit, but its normal. Reason for the tight fit is the fact that it has a large cover for the type 4 oil cooler.
