944 strut...

Is it possible to make a 944 strut work on a 73 super, I think I was reading something about cutting the strut down and using a a2 golf strut insert or something like that? Does anyone have any experience they could share? I was already planning on making them adjustable coilovers, but I was wondering about any problems I am going to run in to. I appreciate the help. And one more thing, what is the kerscher website for the US? I am interested in getting some widened fenders someday and I love the look of theres. Are there any companies that make fiberglass fenders that have that same look that are a little easier to get? Thanks in advance...

It's easier just to use 1303 struts. The only difference between 944 and 1303 strut housings is the perch, and the elongated bolt hole for a cam-bolt where the housing bolts to the spindle. The 944 inserts are too heavily dampened for a Bug, and the springs are WAAAAY too stiff.

If you just want a lower front, and a good ride quality, get Maxx Struts.

Kerscher: They don't have a US branch, but they do sell, and deliver to the US. Best way to transact is by phone. Call VERY early in the morning, have part numbers, and credit card info ready. I think they are 8 hours ahead of us so a 5:00am est. call will be 1:00pm there.

Actually the 944 shocks are well suited for the 1303. As long as you stick with the hydraulic units. No high pressure gas.

I agree the oil dampened inserts work much better than the gas charged ones. 944 gas charged inserts barely jounce at all in a 1303. The front is almost rock-solid with them in use. Actually, though, either one has more resistance than a 75-125lb coil spring can effectively use. I found that the static height of the front end was never consistent with 944 hydraulic-only inserts. The springs couldn't push against the dampers hard enough to return to the same static ride height every time I came to a stop.

What insert?

I decided to use 1303 struts. Which golf strut inserts fit 1303 struts? I am making them adjustable coilovers but I need a shorter strut insert. I'm just not sure if its the A1 or A2 jetta. Thanks for the help guys.

use mk1 golf strut, they two inch shorter and have adjustable camber. if your cutting off spring platforms anyway.
