IRS weld onto swing pan?

Just wondering if anyone has used the weld on brackets for installing IRS rear control arms on a swing axle pan?

It would be nice to keep the 57 number matching if at all possible.

Thanks!

Here's a link to a conversion I did some time ago.

Beautiful job!!! Those jigs are priceless! Very nice tool you have made.

Thanks for sharing the info on your build.

Very nice job, I did my old speedster and my jig wasn't anywhere near as nice looking! Why did you make two, when they should be identical? I've also seen bigger jogs which hold both inner arms, I guess they are a bit more stable..

IRS conversion jigs

I need to do a 944 narrow arm conversion into a 66 swing arm pan. My problem is that I am in Thailand and getting a IRS Beetle to make a jig as shown in this thread is next to impossible.

Can anyone provide me with a drawing to construct a jig, sell me the same, or point me towards where I can buy something

I made mine from 944 parts, just had to add a spacer to allow for the different inner bushes..

If I had an IRS pan laying around, I would fab you up a pair :( .

These guys show a step by step using a homebuilt jig, they might sell the jig and the mounts?

Ricola

I have the 944 arms now.
Can you please expound on how you did it, or are there other bits involved

ricola May 19th 2007 05:18

I bought the complete rear end from the 944 so made a jig linking the torsion bushing cover to the inner mounts. There are some pics in the speedster bit on my site...

IRS jig

Blind Chicken is apparently working somewhere else and not in a position to make me jigs.

Any other ideas on where to get jigs, or a drawing so that I can make my own. I am at a loss now and work on the project has stopped until I can get these trailing arms mounted
