I just picked up my first beetle, '71 super. I have an addition to this q. Will this method of lowering the rear ( I hope to drop at least 5") throw my camber way out like some of the cars I've seen? Also will this method even get my that low or will I need to do something else?

Thanks

The cars you seen with extreme negative camber on the rear, are swing axle cars. Look under the rear of your car at your axle. If you see a rubber boot at BOTH ends of axle (by wheel and by tranny) then you have a IRS. If you only see ONE boot at the tranny only, you have a swing axle. The IRS will not give extreme camber when lowered. ;)

This isn't related to the IRS question....But when you have such negative camber on a swingaxle. How do they get the trannny oil up the axle tubes in order to lubricate the wheel bearings?

you can get some decent camber with IRS.... just need to go 3 splines or more:D

as for your REAL low swing axle, you should replace the bearings with sealed, lifetime lubricated ones. problem solved.

Right on, I know i have I.R.S. but didn't know if it was exempt from the negative camber.
