What made you decide on the WBX over the T-4 or Subaru powerplant?

1303R June 22nd 2007 12:27

hey. lots of reason's for me. i wanted a 170-200bhp motor, wanted a heater, wanted a turbo(jus for giggles and something to play with) and didn't wanna spend loads of money. t4 you need a fan conversion(money) and don't get a proper heater or relible cooling(jus my opinion) and subaru you need to pay out for flywheel/adaptor(money) and sump if you want it low, like me. also i think the weight would be a lot heavier and more rearward. plenty of reasons for chosing any of them thou. i'd really like a roatry turbo...................

I was planning to go the Subaru route when I found that power levels that I want could be had while 'keeping it in the family' with a WBX. I'm trying to get more info on doing-it-up!

Hey 1303R,

How does the car run now?

1303R August 2nd 2007 13:48

went ok for the 10mins i drove it! had to pull it back out as the gearbox is buggered. no fault of the engine. i had my girlfriend sat next to me with the innovate fuel meter telling me what was going on. was over fueling and had slipping cluth so didn't find out much. well happy with gauge, should make setting up much easier.

I can't wait to put mine together.

I'm gathering info on what modifications to make such as cam choice, valve size, cr (piston cc dish & head cc) to run, head modifications, dry sump or autostick pump etc.

well been driving about in it for a bit now. things i've learnt, need an oil cooler, need a chargecooler, need more space! if i were gonna do this again i'd move the firewall forward to where the rear seat is, would be much easier getting everything to fit, i have it all in but would save a lot of headaches. mainly getting air to the engine/intercooler/oilcooler. guess you'd need this whatever engine you went for. problem i do have at the moment is clutch slip. looking to see what is availble at the moment.

ive really been considering this conversion, keep throwing it up against a rotary, looking at costs and power etc....
do i spenjd a few hundred, dump the 1600(which even after a top end rebuild is shagged) and go for a 1.9 wasser boxxer which will be more reliable and have a bit more power to play with

or do i wait and go for the compact, light rotary engine?

jus an update on mine, engine has come out again as have a nice light brown mix of water and oil, in both the sump and in the radiator:eek: seeing if i can get hold of a good used unit to fit while i pull mine apart to see whats gone wrong. compression is only, 90psi 92psi 107psi and 92psi, still pulled very well thou!!!!
